A surge in mortgage rates have cause buyers to sit on the sidelines. Whatever affordability buyers have gained through sliding prices, they are losing in mortgage rate hikes. As Americans face mortgage rates that are nearly twice as expensive as they were in 2021, more people are putting their homeownership dreams on pause. And that means sellers are not only losing leverage — they are also losing money. "Resourceful sellers understand that the market is intertwined with rising mortgage rates," Sam Chute, a Redfin listing agent said in a housing report on the decline of bidding wars.

Pandemic hot spots are among the most affected by the slowdown as homes sit on the market. Prices for luxury homes are still rising in all of the country's 50 biggest metropolitan areas. The cracks in the market are beginning to show in cities like Denver, Austin, and Detroit, which all saw an influx of monied buyers during the pandemic. The same cities that saw inventory linger saw the largest increase in new luxury listings coming onto the market in the third quarter. The median sale price of luxury homes still rose in the 50 most populous metros tracked by Redfin.

A Florida Keys boat captain was arrested on a manslaughter charge Thursday in connection with a deadly parasailing trip this year, officials said. An arrest warrant accused the captain, Daniel Gavin Couch, 49, of not checking the weather before the May 30 trip and then cutting the towline to his passengers’ parasail during strong winds. Couch was arrested Thursday by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on a warrant for one charge of manslaughter and five counts of violation of commercial parasailing statutes, the commission said. The FWC said Couch hadn’t recently checked weather conditions before he took 12 passengers on the parasailing trip May 30. Cutting the towline was called a “gross and flagrant decision” that severed the group’s only means of safe return.

One housekeeper uses TikTok to show how much laundry she must fold in an 8-plus hour shift. Zeiber's TikTok videos showing what she calls "deadly drops" from a linen chute into the hotel's laundry room, have gone viral, shocking viewers. In the comments section of her account, Zeiber clarified that she is not the only housekeeper at the hotel, but she's the only person responsible for laundry. Sometimes her workdays last beyond eight hours and include more than just laundry, according to Zeiber. Kasea Zeiber is the only housekeeper responsible for folding laundry in an 126-room hotel in the Pittsburgh area.

"I think this is a great time to get into the better projects of crypto," said Witter, who started buying crypto tokens in 2018. A recent survey of family offices in a BNY Mellon Wealth Management and Harris poll found that 77% of family offices were exploring or investing in crypto. Family innovation Witter said innovation has always been at the heart of the Witter family.
