Americans overwhelmingly hold an unfavorable view of China, with an increasing number labeling the nation as an enemy of the United States, according to a Pew Research Center survey released Wednesday. Half the respondents identified China as a competitor, while 6% saw it as a partner to the U.S. The polling results come at a contentious time between the world's top two economies and ahead of the U.S. presidential elections. The survey also found that those who say the current U.S. economic situation is bad are more likely to blame China and hold unfavorable opinions of the country.

Seoul, South Korea CNN —China’s newest, largest and most-advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian, took a big step to joining the world’s largest naval fleet on Wednesday as it set out from Shanghai for its first sea trials. “The sea trials will primarily test the reliability and stability of the aircraft carrier’s propulsion and electrical systems,” read an announcement from the state-run Xinhua news agency on Wednesday. The warship was launched in 2022 and has “completed its mooring trials, outfitting work and equipment adjustments” working up to the latest sea trials, Xinhua said. One of the two sources familiar with the automaker's gigacasting operations said the suppliers involved are now adapting Tesla's three-piece process for the next-generation vehicle. "The sticky U.S. inflation sparks concerns for 'higher-for-longer' interest rates", leading to a stronger U.S. dollar and putting pressure on commodity prices, independent market analyst Tina Teng said. Lower inflation would have increased the likelihood of interest rate cuts, which would stimulate economic growth and oil demand. But oil prices could swing higher again if U.S. inventory data and China's PMI index show improvements this week, Teng said. Brent had settled up 49 cents and WTI up 28 cents on Friday on concerns about disruptions to supply from events in the Middle East.

AITO Automobile, a Huawei-backed new energy vehicle brand, is investigating the incident in collaboration with the local traffic police department, the company said in a statement released on its WeChat and Weibo public social media accounts on Sunday. Three people, including a two-year old boy, died after a Huawei-backed Aito M7 SUV burst into flames following a crash with a truck on a highway in the Chinese city of Yuncheng in the northern province of Shanxi, state media said. Aito Automobile, a Huawei-backed new energy vehicle brand, is investigating the accident along with traffic police, the company said on its WeChat and Weibo public social media accounts on Sunday. Video on social media showed bystanders trying to break the window and door of the SUV as it was lodged under the truck with the front of the vehicle engulfed in flames. The Aito M7, made by Huawei in partnership with Seres Group , was launched in 2022, with Huawei providing technology for the vehicle and help with marketing.
