CNN —As the Colombian military frantically searches for four children missing after a jungle plane crash over two weeks ago, new details are emerging about the plane’s history – and local concerns over the safety of air travel in that part of the Amazon. Colombian Military Forces/ReutersIndigenous activists who mourned the deaths in a statement earlier this week said the crash was no surprise, accusing airline companies operating in the Amazon of chasing profits and the Colombian government of failing to uphold safety standards. Speaking to CNN, OPIAC president Julio Cesar Lopez pointed out that the ill-fated plane had previously crashed in the same region, on July 25, 2021. The report states that the plane was built in 1982 and, prior to the 2021 crash, had accumulated over 10 thousand flight hours. Relatives say the children knew the jungle well, and are holding out hope that they will be found alive.

Last Friday evening, as drizzle fell on the tarmac, 10 passengers boarded a Gulfstream G4 headed from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey to Farnborough Airport, just southwest of London. They didn’t seem to notice the plush leather seats or the treats nestled in champagne flutes in the armrests. The passenger manifest included nine dogs, mostly on the larger side, and one sphinx cat, as well as 10 humans. All had one thing in common: an aversion to putting their pets in the cargo hold. Pet owners seeking to transport their pets on commercial flights must navigate a patchwork of rules that vary by airline.
Norwegian Cruise Line's themed cruises have been selling out in record time and Holland America plans to grow its partnership with charter companies. The passionate fans help cruise lines fill up ships and are some of the most loyal in the industry. Will ByingtonThese repeat bookings are music to the cruise lines' ears — it's a mutually beneficial operation for both the themed cruise production companies and the cruise lines themselves. To pull off these festivals at sea, themed cruise providers charter full ships from various cruise lines. "I think the themed cruise industry is going to grow even faster [than the general cruise industry]," Hearing said.
A JetBlue flight landing at a Massachusetts airport had a "close call" with a private jet, the FAA said. The JetBlue pilot had to take "evasive action" to avoid the private jet on the runway on Monday. "The pilot of the JetBlue aircraft took evasive action and initiated a climb-out as the Learjet crossed the intersection," said the FAA. Two weeks ago, FAA acting administrator Billy Nolen issued a "safety call to action" following recent near-catastrophic "close calls" on runways and other plane incidents. And in February, a landing FedEx plane in Texas had to pull up at the last minute to avoid landing on a Southwest flight that was headed to Cancun.

A private jet firm has hired 100 pilots and 150 technicians this year, despite a labor shortage. However, its CEO told Insider he now has to pay them 20-30% more than he did pre-pandemic. Market competition is driving labor costs up, flyExclusive's CEO Jim Segrave told Insider. "We've hired 150 technicians in just the last four months, and we've hired 100 pilots in 2022 already," Segrave told Insider in a phone interview. "We can hire all the pilots we want to hire, but then we got to train those pilots," Segrave told Insider.
Susan Karpik is suing a cruise company and operator over their handling of COVID-19 on board a ship. She said it was "probably very stupid" of her to believe the ship was free of the virus when she boarded. Karpik is the lead plaintiff in a class action against the cruise company, Carnival and operator, Princess Cruise Lines. Carnival and Princess Cruise Lines did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment made outside normal working hours. A US couple on board the ship previously accused Princess Cruises and local health officials of covering up infections on board the cruise ship, Insider reported.
Surging fuel, inflation, and labor costs have sent private jet charter prices up significantly. It's a similar story for flyExclusive, another private jet charter firm. "So far it hasn't negatively impacted demand," Seagrave tells Insider, but admits that further price rises may have an impact sooner or later. For flyExclusive passengers, fuel represents between a quarter and 37% of the charter cost, Seagrave tells Insider. VistaJet runs a membership service which means its customers pay an hourly fee, but they still have to pay a fuel surcharge, Qi says.
New York CNN Business —The world’s first all-electric passenger aircraft has successfully taken to the sky. Israeli company Eviation Aircraft successfully launched the Alice on Tuesday morning from Washington’s Grant County International Airport. The zero-emission plane traveled at an altitude of 3,500 feet for its eight-minute inaugural flight. Three different versions of the Alice are in protoype stages: a “commuter” variant, an executive version, and one specialized for cargo. The executive design has six passenger seats for a more spacious flight, and the cargo plane holds 450 cubic feet of volume.
The lawsuit accuses DeSantis of improperly using state funds by picking up migrants in Texas. Last year, the federal government sent 80 flights carrying migrants into Florida, according to Politico. Pizzo filed his lawsuit against DeSantis, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, and Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue.
Vertol is based in the Florida Panhandle city of Destin, in Gaetz’s congressional district, and near Keefe’s home city as well. State and federal campaign finance data show Vertol contributed $2,500 to the North Florida Neighbors super PAC backing Gaetz’s first congressional bid in 2016. After DeSantis was elected, Vertol in 2019 contributed another $10,000 to the Republican Party of Florida, which is ultimately controlled by the governor. And Vertol contributed another $1,000 in June to state Rep. Jay Trumbull Jr.’s state Senate campaign. His father, Jay Trumbull Sr. had been appointed by DeSantis to the Florida Transportation Commission, which oversees the Florida Department of Transportation, the agency in charge of the Vertol contract.
