Craft your questions to hit these three notesNearly any question can be remade into a deep question. The key is understanding three characteristics: A deep question asks about someone's values, beliefs, judgments, or experiences — rather than just facts. One forthcoming study found a simple approach to generating deep questions: Before speaking, imagine you're talking to a close friend. A deep question asks people to talk about how they feel. But studies show people are nearly always happy to have been asked, and to have answered, a deep question.

Marriage psychologists, divorce lawyers, and therapists all say that struggling romantic relationships have one thing in common: bad communication. In all discussions we are supposed to do two things, Duhigg told Harris:Pay attention to what the other person is trying to talk about. Meet them where they are at or ask them to meet us where we're at. The reasons couples fail to do this is because they aren't picking up on what the other person is actually trying to communicate, Duhigg says. And because they are not on the same page, their responses to one another are at best irrelevant and at worst frustrating.

While cooling inflation and a robust GDP reading that smashed economists’ expectations are reasons to be optimistic about the US economy, one key economic engine seems to still be sputtering: small businesses. Small business owners say they’re still grappling with the hangover effects of inflation and a labor shortage, according to the National Federation of Independent Business’s most recent monthly survey, which was conducted in January. Dougherty said small businesses may be delayed in feeling the effect of easing inflation, but once businesses experience more prolonged stable prices, that may help their sentiment turn around. A recent survey of American Express small business customers indicated that some small business owners see strength in 2024. Half of the 557 US small businesses surveyed said they plan to grow or expand their businesses in the upcoming year.

CNN —Karl Marx once gifted a signed copy of “Das Kapital” to scientist Charles Darwin, but the book remained largely unread, providing an “amusing insight” into the dynamics between these two intellectuals, according to experts. Knowing if you're in a practical, emotional, or social conversation helps you connect. Be prepared for the conversation type to shift in one sittingVery often, a conversation can cycle through different types as you keep talking, according to Duhigg. "It's because I was having an emotional conversation and she was having a practical conversation," he said. Ask deeper questions to find the conversation typeWhen in doubt about the conversation type, just ask. Otherwise, you'd be initiating a practical conversation when they might be seeking an emotional one.

In 1798, Napoleon Bonaparte brought a slew of savants — geologists, engineers, and other scientists — on his unsuccessful attempt to take over Egypt. A collection of mummified animals that the scholars brought back from Egypt seemed to hold the key to the question of species transformation. Barbara Kingsolver’s novel “Demon Copperhead,” a riff on “David Copperfield” that moves Charles Dickens’s story to contemporary Appalachia and grapples engagingly with topics from poverty to ambition to opioid addiction, was one of the Book Review’s 10 Best Books of 2022. And — unlike an actual copperhead — “Demon Copperhead” has legs: Many readers have told us it was their favorite book in 2023 as well. CNN —For the first time since his death in 1882, Charles Darwin’s impressive library has been virtually reassembled to reveal the multitude of books, pamphlets and journals cited and read by the influential naturalist. The catalog includes 9,300 links to copies of the library contents that are available for free online, inviting the public to peruse what Darwin read. After receiving letters from researchers and the public asking about specific titles from Darwin’s library, van Wyhe and his colleagues began their project to recreate it virtually in 2007. “He was a very highly educated person who learned ancient Greek and Latin in school as well as French,” van Wyhe said. “Instead of basing one’s understanding on the authors Darwin read that are mentioned in biographies, etc., anyone can now scroll through his whole library.

The diagnosis came after the British monarch underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate in January. In a statement shared with Business Insider, the palace did not disclose Charles' form of cancer but said that the health issue was discovered while the UK royal was undergoing his prostate procedure. On January 17, the palace announced that Charles had an enlarged prostate and would be undergoing a "corrective procedure" later in the month. It's fairly common to detect cancer during an enlarged prostate procedure, Brahmbhatt told BI. Brahmbhatt said procedures to treat an enlarged prostate can reveal cancers of the prostate, penis, testicles, bladder, or kidneys.
