Japanese cities like Tokyo and Kyoto, are traditionally known for shrines, temples and historic cultural sites. But as the birthplace of anime, manga and, of course, Pokémon, Japan is also a pop culture powerhouse and a hotbed of kid-friendly activities, from practicing ninja skills to spending time with Snorlax. For a family trip, “the beauty of Japan is you can walk five steps and easily attract the attention of a child,” said Ramesh Krishan, who goes by the name RamKy and whose company, Japan Unfiltered, specializes in candid tours of Tokyo, Mount Fuji and other destinations. “It could be a capsule toy-dispensing machine, a karaoke bar with interesting desserts on display, or even the peppy music heard playing inside train stations.”Here are six stops on a family-oriented tour of the country’s most-visited cities.

CNN —US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle faced off Monday with angry lawmakers from both parties, who grilled her over the stunning security failures that led to the recent assassination attempt against Donald Trump. Before Trump took the stage at the rally, the director said, the Secret Service had been notified “between two and five times” that there was a suspicious person in the area. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna pointed out that the Secret Service director who ran the agency when Reagan was shot eventually resigned from his post. Before Trump took the stage on July 13, the Secret Service had been notified “between two and five times” that there was a suspicious person in the area, Cheatle said. Female agents who were part of Trump’s Secret Service detail were photographed shielding the former president after the failed assassination attempt.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris departs Air Force Two as she arrives at Pope Army Airfield to campaign in Fayetteville, North Carolina, U.S., July 18, 2024. Kevin Mohatt | ReutersA call Friday featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and about 300 major Democratic donors left many who dialed in frustrated, with one donor declaring it "ludicrous" shortly before it ended, according to two sources familiar with the call. During the call, Harris, who was asked to join the call by Biden's senior advisors, praised Biden, according to campaign officials. NBC News reached out to the Biden campaign for comment. But what angered many donors, this source said, was that during the wait — which was about 20 minutes — donors were "admonished."

I witnessed this firsthand as a White House physician for three presidents, including as the designated physician to the president for Barack Obama during his first term. My presidential patients often worked 12-hour days seven days a week. My role as White House physician was to keep the president healthy and performing optimally, and to provide the public with a candid medical assessment of his ability to carry out the duties of his office. Typically, the 25th Amendment came into play when a president was going under general anesthesia for a colonoscopy or scheduled surgical procedure. It is widely assumed that the physician to the president will gather and provide pertinent medical information to those contemplating whether the amendment needs to be invoked.

“Anyone who thinks this is over is mistaken,” said one House Democrat about the ongoing conversations happening behind the scenes. The delay stopped a draft letter circulating among House Democrats that, if made formal, would have exposed further cracks in the party. ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reported earlier Wednesday that Schumer told Biden on Saturday that it would be best if Biden bowed out of the presidential race. At one point, Biden told Crow, “I don’t want to hear that crap” in addressing the lawmaker’s concerns. In response, Biden told Houlahan that his team would get her talking points about all of the things that he has done for Pennsylvania, reminding her that he married a Philly girl.

Washington CNN —President Joe Biden was bracing for a week of political onslaught. When gunshots rang out at a Donald Trump political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday evening, much of that appeared to change. He also addressed the nation from the Oval Office, calling for a lowering of the political temperature. “I think it should,” one close Biden ally told CNN when asked if that may end up being a result of Saturday’s attack. But those expected discussions were quickly eclipsed by the response to the assassination attempt on Biden’s predecessor and political opponent.

In the past two weeks, several leaders have told me they arrived at meetings with President Biden planning to have serious discussions about whether he should withdraw from the 2024 election. I don’t know whether Mr. Biden should drop out of the race. There’s a gap between what people say behind the president’s back and what they say to his face. According to the original theory, groupthink happens when people become so cohesive and close-knit that they put harmony above honesty. Mr. Biden has done the opposite, declaring first that only the Lord almighty could change his mind and then saying that he’ll drop out only if polls say there’s no way for him to win.

Her radio show, “Sexually Speaking,” premiered on WYNY in 1980 and provided a springboard for decades of call-in shows, a column in Playgirl magazine, guidebooks on sexuality and even a board game.

The leader of the House Democratic caucus said Friday that he had met with President Joe Biden to share opinions from his caucus about "the path forward," an apparent reference to Biden's status as the party's presidential nominee. Jeffries earlier Thursday had said he intended to poll every member of the House caucus about their feelings on keeping Biden as the party's nominee. The timeline underscores the urgency that House Democrats view Biden's political situation. "On behalf of the House Democratic Caucus, I requested and was graciously granted a private meeting with President Joe Biden," Jeffries wrote. "As House Democrats have done throughout this Congress, we will continue to work in the best interests of everyday Americans," the leader wrote.

Thompson, who is widely credited for revitalizing The Times, was appointed CNN chief executive last summer, after Licht’s tumultuous run in the job. Every effort the president and his White House and campaign teams make to fix the problem end up exacerbating it. On every group trip I've ever been taken there has been at least one awkward meal. Usually it's the breakfast after a night of arguments where someone dramatically declares they will be leaving early. Sometimes the relationships revert to their original forms once the vacation ends. Travel reporter Victoria M. Walker says there is usually one culprit responsible for group trip conflict: the budget. "Not having a candid conversation about budgeting is why these types of trips can go wrong," she says.
