The electric 1,093-horsepower Taycan Turbo GT, coming to market this summer, has already set two race track speed record for an electric car. High horsepower numbers and eye-popping acceleration are more common among electric cars than gasoline-powered ones, especially since EVs can have multiple motors. This Turbo GT, a new version of the electric Porsche Taycan, features two motors. One, the standard Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, will be fast but reasonably comfortable for street driving. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package, though, will dispense with backseats and other comfort items to save weight.

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — After horse deaths marred this year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and another occurred days ahead of the world championships, safety at the Breeders’ Cup is under intense scrutiny. “We know equine fatalities is a complicated issue and that’s why we’re continuing to invest in resources,” Drew Fleming, president and CEO of Breeders' Cup Ltd., said Wednesday. Breeders’ Cup officials said his death was due to “a cardiac event.” A required necropsy will determine the official cause. Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs federal court after a plea hearing on two misdemeanor charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes in Wilmington, Delaware, July 26, 2023. Hunter Biden will seek to dismiss the federal indictment against him that included three charges he was arraigned on earlier this week, according to a new court filing. "He will seek to dismiss the Indictment against him pursuant to the immunity provisions of that Agreement," Lowell said. But the deal collapsed in federal court on the day of his arraignment in July and he wound up pleading not guilty on the tax charges. Hunter Biden was indicted in mid-September on three federal gun charges.

CNN —A grandfather who was officiating a wedding in Nebraska is facing charges after accidentally shooting his 12-year-old grandson during the ceremony, officials said. Gardner “decided to gain everybody’s attention and start the wedding with a bang,” Houchin said during a news conference Monday. “When he decided to cock back the hammer of this revolver, it slipped and it shot his grandson into the left shoulder causing an injury,” Houchin said. The 45 COLT ammunition was a blank, but Gardener “put black powder into the casing and then glued it,” the chief deputy added. The boy’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and he was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Omaha for further treatment, Houchin said.

U.S. President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, walks outside on the day of his appearance in a federal court on gun charges in Wilmington, Delaware, U.S., October 3, 2023. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Delaware federal court to criminal charges related to having a handgun while being a drug user. Hunter Biden, 53, was indicted last month on three firearms counts. But Lowell argued that the agreement remains in effect, and that Biden is legally barred from being indicted on the gun charges as a result. In addition to the gun case, Biden also is charged with two counts of failure to pay federal income taxes.

Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs federal court after a plea hearing on two misdemeanor charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes in Wilmington, Delaware, U.S. July 26, 2023. The indictment was secured in September by Special Counsel David Weiss after a plea agreement between Hunter Biden and prosecutors collapsed in August. Many Republican lawmakers who have relentlessly criticized Hunter Biden lauded the Bruen decision. Cases now being litigated will help determine how far the Bruen ruling lets courts go in invalidating gun laws. Even if Hunter Biden gets the possession charge dismissed, there is still the matter of the two counts accusing him of false statements on the background check form.

It had a novel reloading system that functioned on the gun’s own hot gas, and a unique stock that kept the gun on target. In 1959, the gun company Colt acquired manufacturing and sublicensing rights to Stoner’s AR-15 and his gas system. It came equipped with a 20-round magazine, and in 1966, the military ordered more than 400,000 of the guns for its troops. That didn’t stop Colt from marketing to hunters a semiautomatic version — the “Sporter” — that carried a five-round magazine. The gun did not catch on, and the company produced only a few thousand a year.

Hunter Biden will plead not guilty during his initial court appearance for three federal felony gun charges, his attorney said Tuesday as he denied that the son of President Joe Biden is asking for "special treatment" at his first court appearance in the case. Hunter's lawyer Abbe Lowell revealed that planned plea as he asked a judge to hold the court appearance by video conference instead of in person at U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Delaware. The court appearance has not yet been scheduled. Lowell wrote in Tuesday's letter that Biden was "not seeking any special treatment" by requesting the video conference for his first appearance in court on the charges. Lowell's letter called prosecutors' opposition "puzzling," arguing that he was making a "common-sense request in seeking a video appearance.

On the face of it, Hunter Biden appears at risk of being sentenced to as long as 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines if he is convicted on the three gun charges brought against him by federal prosecutors on Thursday. In reality, few people fitting Mr. Biden’s profile — a first-time, nonviolent offender accused of lying on a federal firearms application, who never used the gun (in his case, a Colt Cobra .38 that he held onto for less than two weeks five years ago) to commit a crime — get serious prison time for the offenses charged in the indictment. Just bringing the charges is out of the ordinary in some ways, former law enforcement officials say, and the legal basis of the prosecution is under constitutional challenge. Here’s a rundown of the accusations against President Biden’s son and what makes the case unusual. What are the charges?

The federal gun law used to indict Hunter Biden has a surprising critic: a conservative-led federal appeals courtThe panel ruled the law was unconstitutional in another case, but legal experts say it could come up in Biden's case. The president's son was indicted on three gun-related charges on Thursday after his original plea deal fell apart in court. But the appeals court panel ruled that it was too broad when it was used in Daniels' case and tossed out his conviction. Hunter Biden — the son of President Joe Biden — was indicted Thursday on three gun-related charges. Daniels' case is "readily distinguishable" from Biden's, former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy told Fox News, so it may not apply directly.
