"I wanna be free to garden and travel and not have to worry about the house — but I'm not taking nothing," Morgan told Curbed. "A lot of luxury buyers may already have a primary home, so maybe they're looking for a new investment," StreetEasy Senior Economist Lee said. CNN —A lost Caravaggio painting that was almost mistakenly sold at auction for a bargain price has gone on display at the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain, after being rescued and restored. The oil on canvas work depicts Jesus wearing a crown of thorns with blood running down his face and onto his chest. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, better known simply as Caravaggio, is known for his visceral depictions of violence. “Ecce Homo” will be displayed at the Prado Museum until October 13. Both the previous owner and the buyer were keen for the painting to go on public display at the Prado, said Coll.

It also reflects that there's money in the system — but Chinese consumers are just really not that keen on dropping their hard-earned cash at Starbucks or Gucci. China's demand for gold jewelry softened in the first quarter of this year due to the surge in gold prices but was still holding up well, according to the council. Gen Z Chinese consumers ditch luxury for goldUnlike the rush into gold assets, Chinese consumers are not running out to buy even more stuff, particularly foreign imports. China's savings rate was around 32% last year — compared to around 4% in the US, according to a McKinsey analysis of official data. "Chinese households are increasingly confronted by the weak long-term Chinese growth outlook and the slumping prices in China's residential real estate market," said Biswas.

A popular lender backed by venture capital firms is struggling financially, sending shock waves through the small clothing and home furnishing companies that count on its financing. The lender, Ampla, spent years courting small direct-to-consumer brands with low rates and a pitch that it understood their needs. In recent weeks, its top executives have been searching for a buyer, two people familiar with the firm’s finances said. Ampla has also tightened or frozen clients’ lines of credit and told many customers to find other lenders, leaving them in the lurch, according to half a dozen former and current clients. Its troubles appear to be part of a broader reckoning for direct-to-consumer businesses, some of which are no longer growing as rapidly as they once were or are struggling financially.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday reviewed Macy's most recent quarter, saying he's pleased with the retail giant's preliminary progress in putting its turnaround strategy to work. "It's early days for the Macy's turnaround. It's only the iconic company's first full quarter with CEO Tony Spring at the helm, Cramer noted. Cramer praised Macy's plan to close many underperforming namesake stores while investing in and updating the locations that are doing better. "Either Tony Spring keeps pulling off his ambitious turnaround — and I believe he can do it— or someone else comes in and buys the darned thing."

Wilmington, Delaware CNN —The judge in Hunter Biden’s gun case issued a series of pretrial rulings Friday, handing wins to both sides and setting the contours of the upcoming trial. Federal Judge Maryellen Noreika sided with prosecutors on a key question about what they need to prove about Biden’s drug use when he bought a gun in 2018. Prosecutors said in court that they only want to introduce a small slice of the laptop material at trial. Lawyers said the trial could last up to two weeks, including jury selection, with the potential to go longer. She also limited what references prosecutors could make at trial to his lavish spending habits at the time of the gun purchase, narrowing such evidence to spending connected to drug use.

New York CNN —Buying or selling a stock is about to get a lot snappier starting next Tuesday. But that doesn’t mean it’ll get smoother, at least right away — and some financial firms are preparing to handle any possible bumpiness. Clearinghouses, which sit between buyers and sellers, collect margins from traders as evidence that they can afford to make the transaction. Baird has had a T+1 committee in place since last summer to ensure such hiccups don’t happen, Lee said. “The existing two-day period to settle trades exposes investors and the industry to unnecessary risk and is ripe for change,” Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said in a February 2021 release.

If we apply a multiple of 21.6 on DuPont's business, it puts the enterprise value at $25 billion. So being conservative and using a 20 times multiple, DuPont's water business could have an enterprise value of $7.2 billion. Add these three up and the total enterprise value is about $52 billion. To get the equity value, we subtract the net debt (which is total debt minus cash) from the total enterprise value. If we subtract this from the $52 billion enterprise value, the total equity value could be worth $46.2 billion.
