New Gap CEO Richard Dickson has spoken about his experience upon joining the struggling company from toy business Mattel in August. "You barely knew what we were actually selling," he said on Wednesday, describing how the firm's four apparel brands had leant heavily on promotions and discounts. Coach is the new 'cool girl' brand for Gen Z

After years of sluggish sales, Coach is seeing regained interest from Gen Z consumers. Gen Z increased its spending on Coach by 10% so far this year, according to a new report. According to a consumer spending report from Earnest Analytics, consumers under the age of 25 increased their spending on the Coach brand by 10% from January through June of this year. Once self-touted as "accessible luxury," Coach has since updated that message and its offerings to reinvent itself. Harrods is opening an exclusive member's club in Shanghai that costs from $21,000 yearly. Harrods announced Tuesday that it will open a new private member's club in Shanghai at the end of 2023 in a bid to appeal to the country's ultra-rich consumers. The company's managing director Michael Ward told Bloomberg that these shoppers made up 16% of Harrods' sales in 2022. "We always knew that shopping would go back to China," Ward told Bloomberg. According to estimates from Business of Fashion, Chinese luxury spending is expected to reach $107 billion by 2025.

Perms, or the permanent wave, have been a fixture of American culture since the late 19th century and reached peak popularity in the 1970s and 1980s. While beauty trends, like fashion, are cyclical, perms today differ greatly from those once seen on stars like Cher and Stevie Nicks, thanks to gentler products and digitized heat technology. Digital perms, or hot perms, have also become popular. “It certainly helps that K-Pop and K-Dramas are popular and the stars get perms, so that has made it more culturally acceptable,” said Chen. UK retail giant Boohoo has agreed to pay $197 million to settle a California class-action lawsuit. The retailer was accused of falsely listing items as marked down even though they were never sold for the original price. The money will be distributed to over 9 million plaintiffs living in California. Boohoo announced it would settle the case for $197 million in April, but without admission of guilt, according to the claims administrator, KCC Class Action Services. Those eligible to receive some of the settlement include California residents who purchased products from the Boohoo brands between April 2016 and June 2022.

Inclusive underwear brand Parade is launching at 400 Target stores this week. The brand is popular with younger consumers, but wants to grow its reach away from its Gen Z core. Self-described as the "Internet's favorite brand," Parade has built itself up around its community of Gen Z nano influencers, who promote and offer feedback on new items. "Our ambition is to be the leading underwear brand for all people," cofounder and CEO Téllez told Business of Fashion. Insider reached out to both Target and Parade for further comment, but did not immediately hear back.
