Sidney Powell, a former attorney for Donald Trump, pleaded guilty Thursday morning in a sweeping racketeering case and will testify against the former president on charges that he attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election result in Georgia. CNN —A federal judge has determined Rudy Giuliani forfeits the defamation lawsuit from two Georgia election workers against him, a decision that could lead to significant penalties for the former Donald Trump attorney. Giuliani has been struggling financially, buried under 2020 election legal proceedings, a new criminal case against him in Georgia related to efforts to overturn the election and other matters. He has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges in Georgia and has been released from jail on bond. Atlanta CNN —Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows rolled the dice on Monday with his opening move in the sprawling Fulton County election subversion trial: he took the stand himself. If the judge agrees, the trial could end up moving from state court to federal court, a more advantageous legal spot for Meadows. The former chief of staff also grew somewhat exasperated as the prosecutor questioned why his role would include setting up a call to settle private litigation. “There is a role for the chief of staff to make sure those campaign goals and objectives are implemented at the federal level,” Meadows argued. Meadows quipped, “I can’t imagine I would be chief of staff for President Biden.”

Meadows, Clark, and several other defendants have asked to have their cases removed to federal court. "A federal court judge might be more sympathetic to some of their federal constitutional defenses that they might want to raise," Ratakonda told Insider. A state court proceeding would also take in jurors from Fulton County, which voted overwhelmingly for Biden in 2020.
