Willie Mays' son, Michael Mays, addresses the crowd aside baseball greats Ken Griffey Jr., left, and Barry Bonds, right. Approximately 60 Negro League players were in attendance – marking the largest official gathering of the league’s players in nearly 30 years, according to the MLB. A line of Negro League luminaries processed onto Rickwood Field before the game as “When the Saints Go Marching In” swelled through the stadium. Greason, who served as a mentor to teenaged Mays, told Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal that Negro League players took to the field despite racism and segregation. “The overwhelming consensus is that Willie Mays is the greatest all-around player who has ever played,” veteran sportscaster Bob Costas told CNN.

Joe Biden and Donald Trump Getty ImagesVoters, ages 50 and up, will have a strong influence on the November election. Meanwhile, for older voters, ages 50 and older, Social Security is a top economic concern, the results found. "Democrats only have a three-point advantage on Social Security right now, so the parties are basically tied," said Jeff Liszt, partner at Impact Research. Many voters said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who will protect Social Security, he noted. Democrats in Congress have proposed plans to make Social Security benefits more generous, which would be paid for by taking the wealthy.

“The president has gotten increasingly punchier in recent remarks about Trump and plans to carry that theme through to the debate,” one Biden campaign official said. (CNN debate rules stipulate that each candidate will have a pen, writing pad and a bottle of water at the podium.) Biden’s former chief of staff, Ron Klain, is taking the lead to help the president get ready to debate Trump, a Biden campaign official told CNN. In the last cycle, Biden aides were particularly sensitive to Trump attacking members of Biden’s family on the debate stage. But that doesn’t mean Trump shouldn’t, or isn’t preparing,” said a person close to Trump, who requested anonymity to speak candidly.

Representative Bob Good, Republican of Virginia and the chairman of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus, was fighting on Thursday to hang onto his seat, as his primary race against a challenger backed by former President Donald J. Trump remained too close to call. The contest between two election deniers, which has turned ugly and personal, was potentially headed for a recount that could drag on for weeks. Mail-in votes were still being counted, and Mr. Good said he could still prevail. Virginia does not have a requirement for an automatic recount, but if the winner is ahead by less than 1 percent, either candidate can request one. It was a rare instance in which both candidates in a photo-finish race had promoted the lie that Mr. Trump won the 2020 presidential election, raising questions about whether either would accept an adverse outcome in his own contest.

Meet the hobbyists who collect barf bags

CNN —“I collect barf bags” is not a complete sentence. “I collect barf bags because they’re pretty neat.”“I collect barf bags, and I’m not the only one.”Of the eight billion people on the planet, the number of serious barf bag collectors is just north of 100, according to notable members of their ranks. The ineffable whyWhen Steve Silberburg started collecting barf bags around 1981, he thought he would be the only one. People were indeed amused, but it had an unintended side effect: Classmates started bringing Silberburg other barf bags to add to his collection. “We don’t want anybody to get ahead of us, you know.”“It makes a good litmus test, telling people you collect barf bags,” Silberburg says.

Trump is angry at Good, the chair of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus, because he initially endorsed Florida Gov. But he authored his own demise by getting crosswise with two key forces in the riotous Republican House majority — the ex-president and McCarthy, whose still potent financial machine is on a revenge tour. While he was estranged from Trump, Good campaigned as though he and the former president were on the same side. This is a time to rally behind President Trump,” Good said. CNN —Two employees are suing the Walt Disney Company, saying the company moved their jobs from California to Florida, only for Disney to cancel the project and move them back, hurting them financially and emotionally. But in May 2023, after CEO Bob Iger returned, the company canceled the $1 billion Lake Nona office complex amid a legal and political battle with Republican Gov. The plaintiffs, Maria De La Cruz and George Fong, both work for Disney’s product design division. The complaint alleges that Disney misrepresented and concealed its true plans for the Lake Nona project, hurting – financially and otherwise – at least 250 employees who had made the move from California to Florida. De La Cruz, Mr. Fong and many others dutifully moved to Florida because they love their jobs, they love the people they work with, and they love Disney,” Attorney Jason Lohr said.

Spaceflight veterans Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore arrived at the space station aboard the Starliner on June 6. It’s not uncommon for astronauts to unexpectedly extend their stay aboard the space station — for days, weeks or even months. But the situation makes for a moment of uncertainty and embarrassment that joins a long list of similar blunders by the Boeing Starliner program, which is already years behind schedule. The Starliner spacecraft on NASA's Boeing Crew Flight Test is pictured docked to the Harmony module's forward port on June 13 as the International Space Station orbited 262 miles above Egypt's Mediterranean coast. U.S. crude oil held above $80 per barrel on Tuesday, after starting the week with strong gains. In a note to clients, Bob Yawger, executive director of energy futures at Mizuho Securities, cautioned that the rally in energy prices may largely be speculators covering short positions. Yesterday was the exception that proved the rule," Tamas Varga, an analyst with oil broker PVM, wrote in a note Tuesday. Oil prices had recently declined partly because of a decision by OPEC+ members to start rolling barrels back onto the market in the fourth quarter. Now oil is rising as analysts see the market tightening in the third quarter on expectations that summer fuel demand will draw down inventories.

CNN —The Republican primary race between Virginia Rep. Bob Good, the House Freedom Caucus chair who angered allies of former President Donald Trump and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and state Sen. John McGuire was too early to call Tuesday night. The congressman from Virginia’s 5th Congressional District has faced a fierce effort to knock him out from a broad swath of the GOP in what became the most expensive House Republican primary of the cycle. Vindman’s role in Trump’s impeachment likely made a difference in his campaign. After spending most of his career in Illinois, Bondar moved to Texas in 2020, living outside Dallas – where he voted in this March’s Republican primary. State voting records show Bondar’s early in-person ballot in his primary race is the first time he has voted in Oklahoma.

The Reform leader uses divisive language on migration, warning supporters of what he calls an "invasion" of asylum seekers. Despite years of tough rhetoric and policies aimed at deterring the arrival of asylum seekers – devised largely to placate Farage’s supporters – Britain’s asylum system is creaking. Laws prevent most asylum seekers from working, so while taxpayers fund their accommodation, they cannot contribute formally to the economy. That could widen even further the chasm in understanding between his voters and Britain’s asylum seekers, experts fear.

Once, after he executed a particularly tough-minded legal attack on Republicans, Bob Bauer remembers, a conservative magazine called him an “evil genius.” He took it as a compliment. Mr. Bauer was their man. But now Mr. Bauer, the personal attorney for President Biden and previously the White House counsel for President Barack Obama, is looking back and rethinking all that. Maybe, in taking the “genius” part to heart, he should have been more concerned about the “evil” part. And in the process of thinking about what went wrong, Mr. Bauer, who calls himself a “committed partisan warrior,” has stopped to wrestle with his own role in the wars.
