That surpassed the record of Democratic former President Barack Obama, who had secured the confirmation of 11 openly LGBTQ judges during his eight years in office. Only in the last three decades have presidents nominated openly gay people to the federal bench. Circuit Judge Alison Nathan joined the bench as a trial judge in Manhattan following her nomination by Obama. In Tuesday's 9th inning of the Padres-Astros game, Altuve appeared to foul a ball off his left foot. However, umpires ruled the ball never hit his foot and Altuve was subsequently thrown out at first base. The Padres and Astros each had costly wild pitches, great defensive plays, clutch hits and plenty of frustration with the umpires. Replays seemed to show the ball missed Profar, Profar appeared to be upset that he wouldn’t have the chance to bat and the Astros bench couldn’t believe the call. As the umpires walked off the field, there was plenty of chirping and chatter directed at them by both teams.

Harvey Weinstein hit with new sex crime charge in New York
  + stars: | 2024-09-18 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Former film producer Harvey Weinstein appears in court in New York, U.S., September 18, 2024. Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a new sex crime charge in New York, as he awaits retrial in his landmark #MeToo case. Prosecutors revealed last week that Weinstein had been indicted on additional sex crime charges that weren't part of the case that led to his now-overturned 2020 conviction. While bracing for the new charges, Weinstein also is awaiting retrial after New York state's highest court this spring overturned his 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges involving two women. Weinstein, who also was convicted in 2022 in a Los Angeles rape case, remains behind bars while awaiting his New York retrial.

Some Brazilian users reconnected with X on Wednesday despite the Supreme Court's recent nationwide ban, the result of the social network apparently changing the way its servers are accessed. That rendered X effectively inaccessible in the country until Wednesday, with AP journalists among those who had access. It acts as a proxy between users and X's servers, filtering traffic and preventing the original Internet Protocol (IP) address from being recognized, Diogenes told The Associated Press. Former president Jair Bolsonaro celebrated the return of the social network. Some Brazilian X users trumpeted the platform's return — with several addressing de Moraes directly, vowing that they weren't using a VPN.

CNN —The US Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that it will examine the potential harm to women of heavy metals such as lead and arsenic found in tampons. The FDA’s action follows the July publication of a small pilot study that found arsenic and lead in organic and nonorganic tampons. The July study discovered only the presence of the metals and “did not test whether metals are released from tampons when used,” the FDA said in a statement Tuesday. “However, there is no reason for people to be afraid to use menstrual products at this time,” Pollack added. However, the trend is ruffling more than a few feathers, due to the airport security line being one of the top places in the world where it’s imperative to avoid dilly-dallying. Let’s also not forget that with all those shoes passing through security trays, you may as well be laying your items straight out on the floor. In 2018, a European study found that airport trays are the least hygienic part of the airport, carrying more germs than toilets. So while hand sanitizer doesn’t typically feature in these airport tray photos and videos, it should probably play a key part in the aftercare. “As long as the staged glamor photos are not causing delays or issues with other passengers in the checkpoint, there are no issues.

Trump had unveiled the IVF policy in broad strokes during a campaign event in Michigan a day earlier. IVF, Trump and abortionTrump's embrace of IVF as a policy platform is the former president's latest effort to court voters concerned about women's reproductive rights. Trump, in turn, urged the state to find a solution that would "preserve the availability of IVF in Alabama." Starbucks shares rallied on the news, while Chipotle shares fell. He also lowered his price target on shares to $685 from $750, which implies just 6% upside from Monday's close. Chipotle shares pulled back of 7% comes as decelerating trends and a sector rotation already impacted Chipotle's multiple. Since Niccol took the position of CEO in 2018, Chipotle shares surged more than 770%.
