Corelogic identified how much Barbie's iconic Dreamhouse has appreciated since its 1962 debut. It discovered that Barbie's mansion has seen the most appreciation during the past three years. A new report from Corelogic identifies how much Barbie's iconic Dreamhouse — if it were real — has appreciated in 20 markets across the country since its debut in 1962. While a life-sized iteration of the Barbie Dreamhouse exists on Airbnb — though its booking period is now closed — it did not figure into Corelogic's price estimate. Thomas Malone, a researcher with Corelogic, told Insider that given the location of Barbie's Dreamhouse and the demand seen during the pandemic, it's not surprising that Barbie's home is so expensive today.

On Monday, "Barbie" added $26 million to its haul, the biggest Monday in the history of Warner Bros. and the best-ever for a female director. Greta Gerwig's bubblegum pink feature added another $26 million on Tuesday, extending its domestic box office to $214 million. "Barbie" exceeded opening weekend expectations, snaring $162 million over its first three days in domestic theaters. In just five days in theaters, "Barbie" has topped $470 million globally.

The "Barbie" movie dominated the box office this past weekend, and you didn't need the numbers to prove it. Many movie theaters were awash in pink as fans of the iconic doll came dressed for the occasion. "Everything about this movie and the toy is fun," Sheri Lambert, a marketing professor at Temple University, told CNN. The combined release of "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," dubbed "Barbenheimer," has become a pop culture sensation — and one that might revive a struggling movie industry. "Barbie" was distributed by Warner Bros., which is owned by CNN's parent company Warner Bros.

The final Friday to Sunday tally for the "Barbie" movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling was slightly higher than the $155 million the studio estimated on Sunday. "Barbie" is the No.1 movie of the year based on domestic opening weekend sales, beating the $146.4 million haul for April release "The Super Mario Bros. The story of the making of the atomic bomb brought in $82.4 million in the United States and Canada from Friday through Sunday, up from the earlier estimate of $80.5 million. In 78 international markets, "Oppenheimer" collected nearly $98.0 million for a global total of $180.4 million. Both movies beat expectations and helped the U.S. and Canadian box office surpass $300 million for just the fourth time in history.

So, while the movies share nothing other than a release date, their box office performances have been intertwined. Because of the "Barbenheimer" effect, many moviegoers who had only planned to see one of the two films ended up watching both. When forecasting for the two movies first started, experts predicted that "Barbie" would have an opening weekend in the $50 million to $60 million range, while "Oppenheimer" looked poised to sell between $30 million and $40 million worth of tickets. "Barbie's" $162 million share of that figure set the record for biggest opening weekend ever for a female director. Here's how the "Barbenheimer" $246.2 million opening weekend stacks up among the biggest movie openings of all time, according to Comscore data.

NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - It is Barbie’s world, and U.S. small businesses hope their social-media marketing can help them cash in on it. But as Mattel-licensed Barbie marketing and products flood big companies' stores, hotel suites and social media posts, small firms also seek to capitalize on the hype. “Small businesses may look at the Barbie promotions and dream of that kind of budget and mass brand awareness,” said Brianne Fleming, an adjunct marketing instructor at University of Florida. MoonFire, an arts boutique based in Dallas, Texas, hosted a Barbie-themed collaboration in person with ten small businesses selling hot-pink, Barbie-inspired products. So, for small businesses, the strategy is to be a quick follower,” he said.

"Barbie" cost a reported $145 million to make, plus an estimated $100 million for its elaborate marketing campaign, while "Oppenheimer" reportedly cost $100 million. The "Barbie" movie could drive material upside for Mattel stock, according to Goldman Sachs. The bank increased its Mattel price target to $24 as estimates suggest more than $150 million in ticket sales this weekend. These are the three reasons why Goldman expects the movie to drive financial upside for Mattel. These are the three factors that could help Mattel benefit from the potential success of the "Barbie" movie. A bonus reason exists for Mattel stock to benefit from the "Barbie" movie, and that's the possibility of Mattel licensing more of its intellectual property for content creation, according to the note.

As studios cut spending and strikes shut down production, Hollywood can take some solace — brands are coming to the rescue. Brand Storytelling is an organization that's held a festival for brand content alongside the Sundance Film Festival for the past seven years. Brand film submissions have almost tripled to 160 in the past three years, according to Rick Parkhill, director and co-founder of Brand Storytelling. "Film directors need the work," said Marcus Peterzell, who left ad giant Omnicom to found Passion Point Collective, a brand film studio, in 2019. He's since made some 36 film projects for brands.

Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz sat down with CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday to discuss the launch of the brand's cinematic universe and Barbie's big screen debut, just days before the long-awaited film premieres. Kreiz said the Mattel transformed its mindset when the company realized its customers are not just consumers, they're fans. "This was not about making a movie, this was about creating an iconic cultural moment," Kreiz said. "We transformed our business model," Kreiz, who became CEO in 2018, said. Kreiz lauded Gerwig for creating a film that takes the iconic Barbie brand and makes it "relevant to everyone."

Aqua's chart-topping 1997 hit "Barbie Girl" called the doll a "blond bimbo" and was full of innuendos. "Barbie Girl" is now being revived in Greta Gerwig's film with a performance by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. But no one really thought that the tongue-in-cheek song could have been written by Mattel, Lobel wrote. Years later, Mattel even bought the rights to the song from Aqua, Lobel wrote. The song is now making a comeback, in a way, thanks to Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" film, which is hitting cinemas this Friday.

Insider spoke to three Barbie collectors who seem unfazed by the potential rise in the dolls' worth. As a collector doing it for love, he told Insider those looking to make money should invest in other things. Antique expert Dr. Lori told Insider she estimates a 25% rise in the doll's value in the build-up to the film's release and immediately afterward. "There are too many elements to the concept of value, and it's rarely just about finance," Yang told Insider. Even if these Barbie collectors were looking to make a quick buck in Gerwig's box office weekend, selling Barbies isn't easy.

LOS ANGELES, July 6 (Reuters) - Warner Bros (WBD.O) studio on Thursday said a map in its upcoming "Barbie" movie of the South China Sea is a "child-like" drawing with no intended significance, days after Vietnam said it would ban the film over the map. Vietnam balked at a scene of the map that shows China's unilaterally claimed territory in the South China Sea, state media reported on Monday. “The map in Barbie Land is a whimsical, child-like crayon drawing," the studio said in a statement. Vietnamese authorities objected to a scene showing a map that includes the so-called nine-dash line, the newspaper said. "Barbie" is the latest movie to be banned in Vietnam for depicting China's nine-dash line, which was repudiated in an international arbitration ruling by a court in The Hague in 2016.

"Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" will both be released in theaters on July 21. Warner expects the film based on the Mattel doll to take up to $80 million in its first three days. That's about double the projected box office take for Christopher Nolan's epic over the same period. For about a year, a box office battle has been brewing between "Barbie" and Oppenheimer" — the two much-anticipated films from Oscar-nominated directors that are set to be released on exactly the same day. That's before the release of more blockbusters, including "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" and, of course, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer."

"Barbie" isn't just the biggest ticket of the summer, it's also the hottest merch money can buy.
