AbbVie will also get access to Immunogen's follow-on pipeline of ADCs, including early-stage ovarian cancer candidate IMGN-151 and a mid-stage drug pivekimab sunirine for a rare type of blood cancer. The renewed interest in Alzheimer's vaccines follows a promising first attempt more than 20 years ago that was abandoned after 6% of study volunteers developed life-threatening brain inflammation known as meningoencephalitis. Dr. Reisa Sperling, an Alzheimer's researcher at Mass General Brigham in Boston, said she believes vaccines will play an important role as researchers look to prevent Alzheimer's. She is considering vaccines for her next study in asymptomatic people with Alzheimer's proteins in their blood, but not enough to register on brain scans. Alzheimer's vaccines are still in the early stages and will require large, years-long trials to show they work. Generating a strong immune response is critical for such vaccines, which would typically be given to older individuals with weaker immune systems, he said.

Some economists contend the rise in continuing claims reflects difficulties adjusting the data for seasonal fluctuations. That would be consistent with the latest hiring data showing the job market is cooling. A separate report showed that there were 1.5 job openings for every unemployed person in September, down from around 2-to-1 when the job market was the most tight last year. The claims data adds to the case for the U.S. Federal Reserve to keep interest rates on hold for now, economists said. Vanden Houten, however, said she expects job market conditions to soften slowly, and now expects the first Fed rate cut to happen in September rather than May as she had previously forecast.

U.S. GP results stand after F1 stewards reject Haas appeal

Stewards ruled, in a lengthy statement, that Haas had presented no significant and relevant new element that was unavailable to them at the time of the Oct. 22 race in Austin, Texas. The decision was reached after a virtual hearing that started on Wednesday and was deferred to Thursday. Haas, last in the championship, sought the review during last weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix because they believed some rivals exceeded track limits without sanction. The U.S.-owned team argued that the track limit infringements were "neither noted, nor investigated nor penalized by the stewards as reflected in the final classification." The stewards found the onboard camera footage of Albon's Williams and following cars was significant but not new, previously unavailable or relevant.
