A federal judge Monday rejected an effort by former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to move his Arizona indictment to federal court in a case focused on efforts to overturn Donald Trump's 2020 electoral defeat. U.S. District Judge John J. Tuchi said that Meadows missed a deadline to file his request and "has failed to show good cause that might permit the Court to excuse the untimeliness." An attorney for Meadows did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night. In April, a state grand jury in Arizona indicted Meadows and two other former Trump aides — Rudy Giuliani and Boris Epshteyn — and several so-called “fake electors” over efforts to overturn Trump's election loss in the state in 2020. Meadows previously lost an attempt to move his Georgia indictment to federal court in a similar case.

Across the border in the Czech Republic, thousands of residents have been left without hot water and electricity after authorities shuttered heating plants. Authorities are also alarmed by the situation in the Czech town of Litovlje, where 80% of buildings are submerged. The town’s mayor, Viktor Kohout, told CNN Prima that the Morava river is expected to crest at 2 p.m. local time (8 a.m. Police have extensively “warned the public about the danger” of walking along the river, a Bratislava Police spokesperson told CNN on Monday.

One person drowned in southwest Poland and thousands were evacuated across the border in the Czech Republic after heavy rain continued to batter central Europe on Sunday, causing flooding in several parts of the region. Rivers overflowed from Poland to Romania, where four people were found dead on Saturday, after days of torrential rain in a low-pressure system named Boris. Some parts of the Czech Republic and Poland faced the worst flooding in almost three decades as towns evacuated thousands. That surpassed a record seen in heavy flooding in 1997, which partly damaged the town and claimed 56 lives in Poland. In Romania, authorities said the rain was less intense than on Saturday, when flooding killed four and damaged 5,000 homes.

CNN —Ukraine’s military has claimed it sank a Russian submarine in a port in Crimea, in what would be another major setback for Moscow in the occupied peninsula. The submarine Rostov-on-Don was hit in the port of Sevastopol on Friday, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said in a statement Saturday. “The boat sank on the spot,” the General Staff said, without providing further evidence. The submarine was “severely damaged” in a Ukrainian missile attack in September 2023, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. Britain's Finance Minister Rachel Reeves on Monday announced a raft of project cuts after detailing how the newly elected Labour government has inherited a projected overspend of £22 billion ($28.2 billion) from the center-right Conservatives. The finance minister also said she had canceled plans to sell NatWest shares to the public, saying the proposal put forward by her predecessor Jeremy Hunt did not "represent value for money."
