Morgan Stanley analysts say they are expecting the computer memory sector to hit new highs over the rest of 2024, despite investors "generally" not being comfortable buying such stocks at such lofty prices. Aside from their attractive valuations, memory stocks are expected to see a lift in demand on the back of stronger usage of artificial intelligence-powered applications, infrastructure, tools and services, the analysts added. Top pick and overweight-rated stocks SK Hynix , the South Korean chipmaker, is Morgan Stanley's "top pick." Both stocks trade on the Korean Exchange and in the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (SK Hynix has a 10.7% weight while Samsung Electronics has a 22.2% weight). Morgan Stanley is overweight on the stock and gives it a price target of $86, or nearly 12% upside.

Alex Jones does not, for now, have to turn over the Infowars bank accounts to the Sandy Hook families he owes millions, a bankruptcy judge ruled on Thursday. The ruling by Judge Christopher Lopez is the latest turn in an increasingly acrimonious battle between two groups of Sandy Hook families fighting to be paid defamation damages from Mr. Jones. “Let’s just do this with process and transparency,” Judge Lopez said in the hearing, held in Houston. The families of eight victims who sued Mr. Jones in Connecticut had filed an emergency motion asking Judge Lopez to block a court’s ruling last week granting Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, who sued Mr. Jones in Texas, the right to seize Mr. Jones’s business bank accounts, which contain roughly $2 million. Mr. Heslin and Ms. Lewis are the parents of Jesse Lewis, 6, who died at Sandy Hook.

The bank took the unusual step of issuing a press release minutes before midnight ET to disclose its response to the Fed's findings. JPMorgan said that the Fed's projections for a measure called "other comprehensive income" — which represents revenues, expenses and losses that are excluded from net income — "appears to be too large." Under the Fed's table of projected revenue, income and losses though 2026, JPMorgan was assigned $13 billion in OCI, more than any of the 31 lenders in this year's test. It also estimated that the bank would face roughly $107 billion in loan, investment and trading losses in that scenario. "Should the Firm's analysis be correct, the resulting stress losses would be modestly higher than those disclosed by the Federal Reserve," the bank said.

There could be some pretty good inflation news on the way from the Commerce Department when it releases a key economic report Friday. Add to that the noise surrounding the US election, and it could be a rougher second half. Central Banks in Canada and the eurozone have both cut interest rates, but inflation rose in both of those regions last month. Australia, meanwhile, saw its inflation rate rise to 4% this week, stoking fears that the Reserve Bank of Australia could soon move to raise rates again. It was already well known that no documentation was found to show who worked on the door plug. Without the bolts, the door plug incident was pretty much inevitable.

Being in a bridal party is a notoriously expensive assignment. Not including a present, bridesmaids spend, on average, more than $1,600 being in a wedding, according to 2024 data from The Knot. This includes paying for a bachelorette party, bridesmaids dress, and engagement party gift. After enduring this cornucopia of expenses, the expectation to also purchase the newlyweds a wedding present seems excessive to me. But that doesn't mean you have to spend a ton on a wedding present, she says.

New York CNN —America’s biggest banks are well positioned to survive a severe recession while continuing to lend to households and businesses, the Federal Reserve said Wednesday in its annual bank resilience test, commonly referred to as a stress test. However, banks could suffer higher losses, if a significant economic downturn were to hit now versus a year ago. As a result of the banking crisis that fueled the Great Recession, the Fed conducts stress tests to monitor and uncover potential signs of weaknesses in the financial system. At the same time, banks’ income from fees was lower, giving them less of a buffer to absorb those losses. “The goal of our test is to help to ensure that banks have enough capital to absorb losses in a highly stressful scenario.
