Last year, Amazon Prime Video secured exclusive streaming agreements with two Nollywood film studios in its hunt for African content. (But) we have to take our stories out … by participating in international events like the Essence Festival and the Cannes Film Festival.

A search is on for a civilian submersible that went missing while trying to explore the Titanic. The wreck of the Titanic is under about 12,500 feet of water in the North Atlantic Ocean. The US Navy's submarine fleetVirginia-class sub USS North Dakota during sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean in August 2013. Reuters/US Navy HandoutThe United States Navy operates some of the most advanced and capable submarines ever to sail, commonly split into three operational categories: ballistic-missile subs, guided-missile subs, and attack subs. Guided-missile submarines are the same platforms as the Navy's boomers, but were converted to launch conventional munitions and deploy special-operations troops.

The banging on Tuesday first came every 30 minutes and was heard again four hours later, according to an internal government memo update on the search. The search for the missing submersible Titan has broadened to an area about two times the size of Connecticut. It was unclear when exactly the banging was heard Tuesday or how long it lasted, based on the memo. We have to keep working until we find the submersible,” Joyce Murray, minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, told reporters Wednesday. If the submersible is intact, the passengers would be dealing with dwindling oxygen levels and fighting cold, he told CNN.

Search and rescue operations continue by US Coast Guard in Boston after a tourist submarine bound for the Titanic's wreckage site went missing off the southeastern coast of Canada. A Canadian military surveillance aircraft detected underwater noises as a massive search continued early Wednesday in a remote part of the North Atlantic for a submersible that vanished while taking five people down to the wreck of the Titanic. The Coast Guard wrote on Twitter that a Canadian P-3 Orion had "detected underwater noises in the search area." "The data from the P-3 aircraft has been shared with our U.S. Navy experts for further analysis which will be considered in future search plans," the Coast Guard said. However, no official has publicly suggested that's the case and noises underwater can come from a variety of sources.

[1/2] The Titan submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions to explore the wreckage of the sunken Titanic off the coast of Newfoundland, dives in an undated photograph. Robotic undersea search operations were diverted to the area where the sounds seemed to originate, but there was still no tangible sign of the missing vessel, the Coast Guard said on Twitter. ROBOTIC SEARCH REDIRECTEDThe search effort included Lockheed P-3 Orion turboprop airplanes designed with sub-surface surveillance gear to detect submarines, Frederick said. The Coast Guard did not detail the nature or extent of the sounds. Titanic expert Tim Matlin said it would be "almost impossible to effect a sub-to-sub rescue" on the seabed.

As search and rescue teams scour the North Atlantic for the missing submersible Titan, one overriding question may dictate the fate of the five passengers: How much oxygen is left? The submersible contains a finite amount of oxygen, with no way of generating more. Once it is consumed, passengers would be left without breathable air. If they can remain calm and breathe less deeply and frequently, they might eke out several more hours. For instance, if they could slow their breathing enough to gain 10 percent more time, that would add nine hours of survival to the possible window for rescue.

A team of scientists working to map the Titanic in 2010 as part of a project to create a high-definition 3D image of the ship. For decades after the Titanic sank, searchers scanned the dark waters of the North Atlantic for the ship’s final resting place. Since the wreck was found, in 1985, it has drawn hundreds of filmmakers, salvagers, explorers and tourists, using robots and submersibles. Mr. Cameron, who has repeatedly visited the wreck, was among those calling for care around the site. By the time it began offering tours to paying customers, researchers said that the Titanic had little scientific value compared to other sites.

CNN —A string of sports games and practices have been postponed as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to choke the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast parts of the United States. Around 75 million people are under air quality alerts as wildfire smoke shrouds major US cities, with Major League Baseball (MLB), the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) forced to postpone games due to concerns over dangerous air quality. Zack Wheeler of the Philadelphia Phillies warms up at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday. Following consultation with the NWSL Medical and Operations staff, it was determined that the match could not be safely conducted based on the projected air quality index,” the NWSL said in a statement. Smoke from Canada’s fires has periodically affected the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic for more than a week, raising concerns over the harms of persistent poor air quality.

Ben Francis didn't become wealthy through a family inheritance or business school connections. Originally, Francis and co-founder Lewis Morgan launched Gymshark as a website selling fitness supplements, he told CNBC Make It in 2021. "CEO was not the right role for me when I was in my early 20s," Francis told CNBC Make It. "Just because I'd started a business that had grown very quickly didn't mean I was the most competent chief exec." "I really think Gymshark can be the U.K.'s answer to those brands," Francis told CNBC Make It.

HOUSTON — It wasn’t long before Kansas and North Carolina tipped off for the men’s college basketball championship in New Orleans last April that Darrion Trammell called San Diego State Coach Brian Dutcher with some news. Now, a full year later, it is easy to see the consequence of that decision. Trammell, a transfer from Seattle University who was courted by Texas Tech and Southern California, among others, has been an indispensable cog for San Diego State, which has reached the men’s Final Four for the first time. He scored 21 points in the upset of top-ranked Alabama, and his free throw with 1.2 seconds left lifted the Aztecs over Creighton in the South Regional final. “It’s wild how it’s all worked out,” Trammell said on Friday, one day before San Diego State was set to play Florida Atlantic for a spot in the national championship game.
BRUSSELS, Feb 28 (Reuters) - The European Union data protection watchdog on Tuesday expressed concerns about a European Commission draft decision that could pave the way for a new data transfer pact with the United States, saying more should be done to protect Europeans' privacy rights. The European Data Protection Board's (EDPB) non-binding opinion comes after the Commission issued a draft decision in December saying U.S. safeguards against American intelligence activities were strong enough to address EU data privacy concerns. The Commission subsequently published a draft adequacy decision to which the EDPB, EU countries and EU lawmakers will have to review and offer non-binding opinions. A final adequacy decision is expected by the summer. Set up under landmark privacy rules known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the EDPB is made up of representatives of national data protection authorities in the 27 EU countries and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) to ensure the consistent application of GDPR rules.
MUNICH, Germany Feb 19 (Reuters) - Ukrainian officials have urged U.S. Congress members to press President Joe Biden's administration to send F-16 jetfighters to Kyiv, saying the aircraft would boost Ukraine's ability to hit Russian missile units with U.S.-made rockets, lawmakers said. The lobbying came over the weekend on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in talks between Ukrainian officials, including Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, and Democrats and Republicans from the Senate and House of Representatives. Kelly and three other lawmakers who spoke to Reuters about their talks with Ukrainian officials said they believed that support was building in Congress to provide Ukraine with F-16s, one of the world's most versatile multi-role jetfighters. Support is building on both sides of the Atlantic for providing Ukraine with advanced NATO-standard jetfighters. Calls to supply Ukraine with advanced jetfighters follow agreements last month by France, Britain, the United States and Germany to supply Kyiv with modern battle tanks.

The conference - primarily focused on Ukraine - came days before the Feb. 24 anniversary of Russia's invasion. Support is building on both sides of the Atlantic for providing Ukraine with advanced NATO-standard jetfighters. Calls to supply Ukraine with advanced jetfighters follow agreements last month by France, Britain, the United States and Germany to supply Kyiv with modern battle tanks. Washington has provided some $30 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the beginning of what Moscow calls its "special military operation."
MUNICH, Germany Feb 17 (Reuters) - Nearly 50 lawmakers from both major U.S. political parties on Friday attended the start of Europe's premier annual security conference to affirm bipartisan support for U.S. aid to Ukraine. But Lindsey Graham, a leading advocate of aiding Ukraine, said in Munich that China would be encouraged to invade Taiwan if the United States and its European allies failed to back Ukraine. But Republicans and some Democrats also say President Joe Biden's administration should better explain its Ukraine policy. The United States is Ukraine's leading military aid supplier at some $30 billion, including long-range artillery, air defence systems and advanced armored vehicles. There are now calls on both sides of the Atlantic for Ukraine to receive advanced Western fighter jets.

REUTERS/Dylan MartinezLONDON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - The final three episodes of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan's Netflix documentary series air on Thursday, with more criticism expected to be directed at the British royals just as King Charles and his family gather for a Christmas carol service. "I wonder what would have happened to us had we not got out when we did," Harry says in a trailer. Newspapers have also cited former unnamed royal aides challenging the couple's narrative in the documentaries, saying there were inaccuracies in their accounts. Both Buckingham Palace and William's office, Kensington Palace, have said they would not be commenting on the documentaries. The service will also be dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth, whose funeral was held in the Abbey in September.
A rare subtropical December storm could form in the Atlantic this week, marking the first in nearly a decade. Although the Atlantic hurricane season ended Nov. 30, an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms in the central tropical Atlantic have a 40% chance of developing into a subtropical storm in two days, and a 50% chance in five days. The last time there was a December subtropical storm was nine years ago in 2013. The next name on the list for a storm is Owen, following Hurricane Nicole which pummeled the east coast of Florida last month. A subtropical storm has a maximum sustained surface wind speed of 39 mph, according to the weather agency.
