Walgreens on Wednesday said it will offer its own cheaper version of the over-the-counter opioid overdose reversal spray naloxone. The company said it will sell a two-dose pack of "Walgreens Brand Naloxone" for $34.99. That's around $10 cheaper than the over-the-counter branded drug Narcan, which became the first prescription-free version of naloxone to win Food and Drug Administration approval last year. The company said the launch of its prescription-free naloxone nasal spray comes after the FDA's recent approval of the product. Mammen hopes that Walgreens can help reduce the stigma associated with drug overdoses and naloxone use.

Loan loss reserves have perked back up in recent quarters and are at roughly 1.75% of loans outstanding, according to MRB Partners. If the economy only modestly slows, as many economists expect, new loan loss reserves could be smaller in the future. This situation comes as bank earnings were generally better than expected for the first quarter. Lauren Goodwin, chief market strategist and economist at New York Life Investments, agreed that a potential slowing or reversal of loan loss reserves would be positive for bank earnings but said she is cautious about bank profitability more broadly. To be sure, banks may need to increase their loan loss reserves if the economic outlook gets worse.

GameStop and AMC are seeing big buying from mom-and-pop investors, but the purchases pale in comparison to the meme stock explosion seen three years ago. The video game seller and movie theater chain saw more than $15.8 million and $37.5 million, respectively, in net retail trader inflows on Monday, data from Vanda Research shows. But that is dwarfed by peak daily inflows of about $87.5 million for GameStop and $170 million for AMC seen in late January 2021. AMC and GameStop, along with other names associated with 2021's blitz including BlackBerry and Koss , were well off session highs in Tuesday afternoon trading. Still, GameStop and AMC on Tuesday were up more than 55% and 40%, respectively, as of 2:15 p.m.

It said it expects total sales to grow about 1% in fiscal 2024, including those extra days. Home Depot on Tuesday posted quarterly revenue below Wall Street's expectations, as shoppers postponed bigger discretionary projects like bath and kitchen remodels because of higher interest rates and made spring purchases late. The logo of U.S. home improvement chain Home Depot is seen in Mexico City, Mexico, on Jan. 15, 2020. In the fiscal first quarter, customers made fewer visits to Home Depot's stores and website and tended to spend less when they did. Daniel Kramer, a photojournalist who captured Bob Dylan’s era-tilting transformation from acoustic guitar-strumming folky to electric prince of rock in the mid-1960s, and who shot the covers for his landmark albums “Bringing It All Back Home” and “Highway 61 Revisited,” died on April 29 in Melville, N.Y., on Long Island. His death, in a nursing home, was confirmed by his nephew Brian Bereck. Rolling Stone magazine once described Mr. Kramer as “the photographer most closely associated with Bob Dylan.” But that designation seemed highly improbable at the outset. Although Mr. Dylan had already begun his rise to global fame — he released his third album, “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” in early 1964 — Mr. Kramer knew little about him. That changed in February 1964, when he watched the 22-year-old Mr. Dylan perform his rueful ballad “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll” on “The Steve Allen Show.” The song details a real event in which a Black woman died after being struck with a cane by a wealthy white man at a white-tie Baltimore party.

Ms. Munro was a member of the rare breed of writer, like Katherine Anne Porter and Raymond Carver, who made their reputations in the notoriously difficult literary arena of the short story, and did so with great success. Ms. Munro’s stories were widely considered to be without equal, a mixture of ordinary people and extraordinary themes. She portrayed small-town folks, often in rural southwestern Ontario, facing situations that made the fantastic seem an everyday occurrence.

CNN —The signs are mounting that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is weighing an indictment against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials over Israel’s conduct of its war against Hamas in Gaza. But in 2015 the ICC stepped in to decide that implicitly it is, by accepting it — without consulting the Assembly of States Parties (ASP), representing ICC member states. Could the highly respected chief prosecutor, Britain’s Karim Khan, be feeling some pressure to play his part in ramping up the pressure on Netanyahu? Netanyahu is on the ropes politically and would almost certainly be trounced in an election held today. Israel desperately needs Netanyahu to be gone, as does the region and the world.

Also, accurately measuring fatty acid intake is difficult, partly due to reliance on participants’ own recollections of their dietary intake. Tetra Images | Tetra Images | Getty ImagesPutting 20% down is 'definitely not required'One way to reduce your monthly mortgage payment is by putting down more money and borrowing less. But for many households, trying to get a higher down payment can be challenging, said Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com. While a lower down payment is one way to "attack affordability challenges," it can be a "mixed bag," Hamrick said. With a lower down payment, you will need to borrow more from your lender, which raises the monthly cost of your mortgage, Hale said. A smaller down payment can also mean you don't qualify for a lender's best -available interest rate.

Meme stocks are having a moment, but the broader market is rallying as well. While GameStop's 74% rally got a lot of attention Monday ( "meme stocks are back!" ), the evidence indicates that a broad rally is dragging up a lot of stuff that hasn't been performing well this year. Hong Kong CNN —For decades, Western companies made a fortune betting on the inexorable rise of the Chinese consumer. Now an economic slump and the emergence of ferocious local competitors means those bets look less safe as price wars erupt. Tesla’s China market share shrank to 4% in April, almost halving from 7.7% in March, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association on Friday. In the 1990s, “every company in the West” was hiring consultants and having boardroom meetings about how to do more in China, according to Stevenson-Yang. How Mark Zuckerberg turned against the news
  + stars: | 2024-05-13 | by ( Kali Hays | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +13 min
Mark Zuckerberg held regular discussions in 2017 and early 2018 about how to make news on Facebook more trustworthy and reliable. "Giving people a voice is not enough without having people dedicated to uncovering new information and analyzing it," Zuckerberg wrote. Zuckerberg also considered a permanent subsidy through his philanthropy the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Murdoch and Zuckerberg's yearslong relationship, while never outright friendly, turned "tense, very tense," when Australia passed the NMBC, a person who worked with Zuckerberg said. When Canada passed a law similar to Australia's last year, Meta simply and decisively turned off news content on Facebook and Instagram.
