Buyers of newly built homes can come across a number of sticker shocks. In February, the median sale price for new construction sold in the U.S. was $400,500, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Depending on what you're picking, they're adding up the tab," Fuentes said. To save on costs with a new build, it may be in a potential buyer's best interest to hire a contractor later on to add desired finishes, experts say. "Think about those elements that could be easily added at a later date," said Angie Hicks, home expert and co-founder of Angi, an online marketplace that connects homeowners with professional contractors for home maintenance or renovations.

Angie Cella was a "Shark Tank" investor's perfect candidate, according to the show's judges: a big dreamer and go-getter with a powerful backstory. The only catch, the investors said on Friday's episode of the ABC show: Cella's business needed a major overhaul, and Barbara Corcoran wanted to be the woman for the job. Cella sold her house to cover the costs, she said — moving herself and her four children into a rented townhome, while working virtually with a factory in China to bring Blinger to life. By the time of filming last year, the product was projected to bring in $4.2 million in annual sales, Cella said. She asked the show's investor judges for $200,000, in exchange for 5% of her product, which she sold through a parent company she named GEMC².

Strange fungus turns cicadas into zombies

But some of these insects won’t succeed in their goal of procreating — instead, they’ll be controlled like zombies into spreading a strange fungus that hijacks cicadas’ bodies and behavior. At some point, the insects are exposed to spores of the fungus Massospora cicadina. Courtesy Angie Macias/WVUDespite having a chalky gumdrop of spores instead of genitals, the infected cicadas still attempt to mate, with gusto. Both male and female cicadas infected with Massospora flick their wings to draw in amorous, soon-to-be-infected males. But attempting to mate is just one part of how infected cicadas spread the fungus.

When we first moved to Los Angeles, our two-bedroom apartment had more than enough room for our family of five. My husband, son, and I shared a king-sized bed in our small bedroom, while my three teens shared the second bedroom. My aunt got the living room. Lastly, my aunt got a comfy reclining chair and a bed in the living room. After a certain time of night, the living room becomes her bedroom.

Brad, 55, and Angie, 56, joke that you might mistake their home for a millionaire's if they lived in a more expensive city. In reality, the couple are empty-nesters living in Wisconsin, where they earn a joint income of around $245,000 a year. The amount they earn should go further in Wisconsin than areas with higher costs of living. In fact, they owe about $430,000 between their mortgage, student loans and other debts. But that probably won't be possible, unless their spending habits and debt balances change dramatically, Sethi said.

Angela Sue Lucas booked a two-day getaway for her 40th birthday in July 2020 at Club DLuxx, an Airbnb run by Dennis Peter Weisse in North Fort Myers, Fla. Or, so she thought. “I refused her reservation,” said Mr. Weisse, 70, who was nicknamed DLuxx by a high school buddy. “I have other guests staying at Club DLuxx and it wouldn’t be fair.” The house is Mr. Weisse’s home, out of which he rents two rooms. The next day, Ms. Lucas, 43, who goes by Angie, set him straight. “I was excited about my birthday staycation,” replied Ms. Lucas, who was looking for a quiet solo escape in early pandemic times.

Inside, an armed man had barricaded himself with his family, including seven children ranging in age from 2 to 15, Evans said. Adam Finseth, 40, a firefighter and paramedic for the city since 2019, also was killed. She and her husband peered out of their sunroom and saw squad cars and a phalanx of police officers. When Rep. Dean Phillips first began making noise about launching a quixotic presidential campaign, the mood among House Democrats might have best been described as anger and disbelief. Since launching his campaign, Phillips has generally been absent from Capitol Hill, effectively cutting down Democrats' ranks by one seat. AdvertisementOn Wednesday evening, Sen. Tina Smith made light of her Minnesota colleague's recent struggles in a video message to the Congressional Dinner, an annual gathering of reporters and lawmakers. At first, Phillips's campaign seemed to constitute a real threat to Biden, even if he was unlikely to actually defeat him. In a statement for this story, a Phillips spokesperson chastised his Democratic colleagues who now speak ill of him.

CNN —Sexually explicit AI-generated photos of pop superstar Taylor Swift have flooded the internet, and we don’t need to calm down. Now, you can digitally undress her or create your own explicit deepfake starring her. Imagine an immersive environment where a scorned ex invites others to collectively view a sexually explicit deepfake video of the girl who rejected him. They never taped a video, but due to advances in deepfake technology, it’s impossible to distinguish whether it’s real or fake. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Several transgender candidates for state office in Ohio are facing challenges and even outright disqualification for omitting their former names from petition paperwork under a little-known state elections law, confronting a unique dilemma as they vie for office in increasing numbers in the face of anti-LBGTQ+ legislation. But state law mandates that candidates list any name changes in the last five years, though it isn't in the Secretary of State's 33-page candidate requirement guide. Michigan has a similar elections law, which mandates candidates list any name changes in the past decade, but it's not clear which others states have one. Political Cartoons View All 253 ImagesThe Ohio law has existed in some form since as early as the 1920s, and the current version has been in place since the 1990s. A survey of North American family offices conducted by Campden Wealth and RBC found that family offices had 29.2% of their investments in private markets, which include private equity, venture capital and private debt, compared to 28.5% in publicly traded stocks. It marks the first time in the survey that family offices had more invested in private markets than public stock. "Family offices have maintained a consistent pattern of augmenting their allocations to private markets," according to the study. Family offices say private markets offer better returns over the long term without the volatility of stocks. Along with private markets, family offices are also showing increasing interest in alternative assets, including real estate and commodities.
