JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia's President Joko Widodo on Wednesday broke ground on the construction of an airport in the country's new capital city, Nusantara. Jokowi, as the president is known, is this week expected to launch a total of 10 projects worth 12.5 trillion rupiah ($783.85 million) in Nusantara, which Indonesia is building from scratch amid the jungles of Borneo island. The 347-hectare airport is expected to be fully operational by December 2024, the president said, without detailing the total value of the project. The country has allocated 40.6 trillion rupiah for the construction of Nusantara in its 2024 budget. A consortium of Indonesian companies including energy firm Adaro, conglomerate Astra International, property firm Agung Sedayu Grup, and energy company Barito Pacific have invested about 20 trillion rupiah in Nusantara.

On the next day, she began to walk around the jungle, the environment ministry said in a statement. "This is a happy news, not only for Indonesia but for the world," environment minister Siti Nurbaya said in the statement. His vice presidential pick, Muhaimin Iskandar, leads the National Awakening Party (PKB), which has strong ties with Indonesia's biggest Islamic organisation, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), that boasts 40 million members. Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, a senior member of Prabowo's Gerindra party, said the announcement "automatically ended the political cooperation of Gerindra and PKB" but added his party respected Muhaimin's decision. JAKARTA, Aug 29 (Reuters) - A strong earthquake of 7.0 magnitude struck deep in the sea north of Bali and Lombok islands in Indonesia early on Tuesday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said, sending residents running out of buildings. The quake's epicentre was 203 km (126 miles) north of Mataram, Indonesia, and very deep at 516 km below the Earth's surface, EMSC said. Indonesian and U.S. geological agencies pegged the magnitude at 7.1, with no threat of a tsunami. Guests at Bali's Mercure Kuta Bali ran out of their rooms after feeling the tremor for a few seconds, hotel manager Suadi told Reuters by phone. "The quake is deep so it should not be destructive," BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari said.

JAKARTA, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Indonesia's defence ministry and U.S. planemaker Boeing (BA.N) have signed an agreement on the sale of 24 F-15EX fighter jets to help modernise the Southeast Asian country's ageing fleet, the ministry and the company said. Boeing and the defence ministry did not provide details on the deal's value. This year, Jakarta bought 42 Dassault (AM.PA) Rafale fighter jets for $8.1 billion. It has also purchased 12 used Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets in an $800 million deal that drew criticism as the aircraft were considered too old. "After Rafale, the F-15 will make Indonesia a strong nation as we keeps building a mature defence diplomacy," the defence ministry spokesperson said.
