That includes researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who are developing a set of wearable robotic limbs to help astronauts recover from falls. When the wearer falls over, an extra pair of limbs can extend out to provide leverage to help them stand, conserving energy for other tasks. The study found that falls were more common when, like Duke, astronauts were collecting samples or using tools – tasks that Artemis astronauts are likely to undertake. Kim Shiflett/NASA NASA astronaut Eric Boe wears Boeing's new spacesuit designed for astronauts who will fly on the CST-100 Starliner. Ballesteros plans to spend the next few years of his PhD using a “Swiss Army Knife technique” to turn SuperLimbs into a system for astronauts that can “address different important use cases, but all be one unified design.”SuperLimbs could help astronauts recover from falls, move efficiently, and do work.

In 2022, oil flow in the Strait of Hormuz averaged 21 million barrels per day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Saul Kavonic, senior research analyst at MST Financial, said supply disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz could send oil prices significantly higher. Oil prices traded more than 3% on Monday, extending gains even after notching their sharpest weekly gain since early 2023 last week. "But seeing where the oil price sits right now the market doesn't seem to hold much probability for such a development at all," he added. "A significant disruption to these flows would be enough to push oil prices to new record highs, surpassing the record high of close to $150/bbl in 2008," he added.

White-collar criminals who can't disconnect are spending thousands of dollars on prison cellphones. Contraband phones go for $1,000 or as little as a few hundred dollars, depending on supply, at minimum-security camps, the so-called Club Feds. The stakes are particularly high for Wilson; his office continues to prosecute a violent, 90-defendant drug ring run by imprisoned people using contraband cellphones. The bureau urges Congress to pass the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Stopping Prison Contraband Act, which would upgrade the charge of smuggling contraband cellphones into a Federal prison from a misdemeanor offense to a felony, Murphy said. White-collar criminals tend to put their contraband phones to more benign uses.

U.S. crude oil rose about 2% on Monday, as the market waited for Israel to strike Iran. Oil prices spiked last week on fears that Israel could hit Iran's oil industry in retaliation for Tehran's ballistic missile attack. The impact on the oil market would be significant if Israel struck Kharg Island, through which 90% of Iran's crude exports pass, Croft said. The worst-case scenario is a disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world's crude exports flow, Gelder said. Iran might target the strait in response to an Israeli strike, which would have a far more dramatic effect on crude prices, the analyst said.

Acting Secretary Julie Su lashed out at the idea that labor wage increases would be passed onto U.S. exporters and importers. Two years after an Alabama prisoner was spared when staff members struggled to execute him by lethal injection, officials plan to try again Thursday — using the rare method of nitrogen gas. He filed a federal lawsuit in March seeking to halt his execution, citing the state's past execution failures and concerns that the method of nitrogen hypoxia would add pain and prolong death. "The resolution of this case confirms that Alabama's nitrogen hypoxia system is reliable and humane," Marshall said in a previous statement. Alabama officials have insisted in court filings that nitrogen hypoxia is "painless because it causes unconsciousness in seconds" and death within minutes.
