"I was losing hope to see my baby alive," said Warda Sbeta in an interview with Reuters TV on Tuesday. Anas was one of only three out of the 31 premature babies rescued from Al Shifa who stayed behind in Gaza. Of the other two, one was unidentified, according to doctors at the Rafah hospital. "They called us from Al Shifa to come and take the baby but it was hard for us to return. The parents rushed to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, but were told they had to go to the maternity hospital in Rafah, where they were finally reunited with Anas.

Video showing chaos with audible gunfire inside the Rabaa al-Adawiya hospital in Cairo, Egypt in August 2013, has been falsely shared online as showing Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) inside the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza in 2023. The miscaptioned video circulated online after Israeli troops entered the Al Shifa hospital on Nov. 15 after a days-long siege. Israeli forces say that the hospital covers tunnels used by the Islamist group Hamas, a claim that has been denied by the group, Reuters reported. “Israeli forces shooting inside al shifa hospital” read posts sharing the old video on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter (archived). The video, however, was uploaded to YouTube (archived) by Egyptian news outlet Rassd News Network (RNN) in mid-August 2013 and depicts shooting inside the Rabaa hospital.

"They are innocent children, premature babies," an exhausted al-Saik said in a video interview provided by the Egyptian government. The babies, from a total of 31 moved on Sunday from the besieged Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to a maternity hospital in Rafah, wore only nappies and tiny green hats. When doctors at Al Shifa raised the alarm about them, there were 39 babies. Like hundreds of thousands of others, al-Saik moved to the south of the Gaza Strip with her three other children, while the baby girl stayed at Al Shifa. FAMILY TORN APARTWith shortages of electricity, water, medicines and other basics, conditions at Al Shifa deteriorated and the baby lost weight and got sick.

Israel is also searching for some 240 people Hamas kidnapped to Gaza after an Oct. 7 cross-border assault that sparked the war. One of these was a 19-year-old Israeli army conscript, Noa Marciano, whose body was recovered near Shifa last week. The Israeli military said a forensic examination found she had sustained non-life-threatening injuries from such a strike. "According to intelligence information - solid intelligence information - Noa was taken by Hamas terrorists inside the walls of Shifa hospital. Since then, Israel has bombed much of Gaza City to rubble, ordered the depopulation of the entire northern half of the enclave and left homeless around two-thirds of the strip's 2.3 million Palestinians. Israel dropped leaflets over eastern areas of Khan Younis telling people to evacuate to shelters, suggesting that military operations there are imminent. Because the western areas are closer to the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, humanitarian aid could be brought in "as quickly as possible," he said. Israel has long maintained that the hospital sat above a vast underground bunker housing a Hamas command headquarters. Noa Marciano, 19, was at a military base near Gaza on Oct. 7 when it was overrun by Hamas fighters. Hamas released a video earlier this week saying she had died in an Israeli airstrike. The Israeli military said on Friday they had found her body the day before in a building adjacent to Gaza's Shifa Hospital and returned the corpse to Israel for burial. Around 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were killed by Hamas during their attack, while up to 240 were taken hostage. A blackout of internet and phone services is now occurring across Gaza. The services have collapsed due to a lack of fuel in the area, says the main telecom provider. Israel refuses to let fuel into Gaza to repair the services, leaving their recovery uncertain. Israeli troops for a second day searched Al Shifa Hospital in the north for traces of Hamas. Lack of fuel brought down the internet and phone network, and it can't be restarted unless Israel lets in fuel, said Palnet, the main Palestinian telecoms provider.

By Mai ShamsElDinCAIRO (Reuters) - The United Nations is looking for ways to evacuate Al Shifa hospital in Gaza but options are limited by security and logistical constraints, a senior World Health Organization official said on Thursday. One obstacle is that the Palestinian Red Crescent lacks sufficient fuel for its ambulances within Gaza to evacuate patients, WHO regional emergencies director Rick Brennan told Reuters. The WHO understood that there were still about 600 patients including 27 in critical condition at Shifa hospital, which Israeli forces entered this week following a days-long siege, Brennan said. Our options are rather limited but we hope to have some better news in the next 24 hours or so," he said. "The idea is that we would bring the majority of patients over days or weeks from Shifa," he added.
