The airline plans to restart flights to eight Chinese cities including Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Wuhan, for which cabin crew are undergoing refresher training courses. "In the flight, we should have at least one cabin crew who can speak Mandarin to communicate with passengers," said cabin crew member, Sakuna Puangpipat. Feb 14 (Reuters) - India, the world's fastest growing aviation market, has seen increased competition with a number of domestic and international carriers adding flights and destinations across the country. Air India on Tuesday placed landmark orders for 470 jetliners from Airbus (AIR.PA) and Boeing (BA.N) as it carves out an ambitious renaissance under the Tata Group. The fleet expansion plans come after Tata Group in November announced a merger of all its airlines, including full service carriers Air India and Vistara and budget airlines Air India Express and AirAsia India. The new planes are expected to help Air India take on IndiGo and win back international traffic from airlines like Emirates. Dec 10 (Reuters) - Air India is close to signing an order with Boeing Co to acquire up to 150 737 Max jets, the Economic Times newspaper reported on Saturday, citing sources. The Tata Group-owned Indian carrier will likely place a firm order for 50 737 Max planes with an option to pick up as many as 150, the ET report said. Boeing's last mega order in India came in 2021 when low-cost airline Akasa struck a deal to buy 72 737 MAX jets, valued at nearly $9 billion at list prices. Boeing declined to comment, saying it would "defer to Air India" for a response. Air India did not respond to a request for comment.

Nov 30 (Reuters) - Capital A Berhad (CAPI.KL), the parent of Malaysian budget airline AirAsia, reported a narrower third-quarter operating loss on Wednesday, buoyed by a strong rebound in travel demand and the easing of pandemic-related restrictions in Southeast Asia. It also forecast a positive outlook for the upcoming years on strong sales momentum and reopening of travel restrictions, projecting stronger air passenger traffic in the next quarter. Capital A posted an operating loss of 563.9 million ringgit ($127.00 million) for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared to a loss of 893 million ringgit in the year-ago period. It reported a sharp 563% increase in revenue to 1.96 billion ringgit from last year's 295.9 million ringgit. Capital A, headed by Fernandes, will retain the digital, logistics and aviation services businesses, while AirAsia X will be renamed AirAsia Aviation and be led by long-time executive Bo Lingam under the plan. Capital A hopes submit to Bursa Malaysia Securities for approval in February. AirAsia X is also classified as PN17, but in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Fernandes said under the restructuring plan, both listed companies would emerge from that status by July 2023. Capital A investors will receive an in-specie distribution in the former AirAsia X, giving them exposure to a pure airline business with multiple brands. Fernandes said the distressed-company status had a "major impact" on the airline's share price by reducing investor confidence, which he hoped to restore through the restructuring plan.

The crash into the Java Sea after take-off from Jakarta, which killed all 62 people on board, was Indonesia's third major commercial plane crash in just over six years and shone a spotlight on its poor air safety record. A working autothrottle is not required for a plane to be dispatched because pilots can control the thrust levers manually. The first officer said "upset, upset" and "captain, captain" before the recording stopped, but the captain's channel was not working, making it more difficult for investigators to analyse events. KNKT had raised the lack of upset recovery training after the 2014 crash of an AirAsia Indonesia jet that killed all 162 people on board. Indonesia is putting in place updated upset prevention and recovery training, KNKT said in the report.

Despite soaring oil prices and weakening currencies, the outlook for aviation remains positive due to "extremely strong" demand, said Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia parent company Capital A. "In AirAsia we have 205 aircrafts and in AirAsia X we have about 20 aircrafts … getting slots and obviously getting them ready for service has been a big challenge." The positive outlook comes in spite of negative market reactions to Fernandes' resignation as AirAsia X's Group CEO this week. AirAsia X is the long-haul budget flight arm of AirAsia. AirAsia X shares dropped after the Oct. 31 announcement, and losses since the development still stood at about 5% as of Friday morning.

United Airlines passengers spotted a snake in business class after the plane landed in Newark, per reports. It was unclear how the snake ended up on the United flight. The reptile was identified as a garter snake, port authorities told Reuters. United told Reuters and other publications that passengers alerted cabin crew to the snake and airport officials in Newark helped with the situation. An AirAsia flight was diverted in February after passengers discovered a snake in an overhead light fixture on the plane.
