CNN —British kayaker Bren Orton is missing after an accident on the Melezza River in Switzerland last week. The 29-year-old was kayaking with a group close to the Swiss-Italian border when he “became trapped in a recirculating feature and did not resurface,” Pyranha, the manufacturer of Orton’s kayaks, said in a statement. “Authorities and friends are tirelessly continuing their search efforts, and at this time, Bren is considered missing,” the statement added. Former competitive kayaker James Reeves paid tribute to Orton’s life and career, writing on Facebook: “Every few years we seem to lose a friend to our sport. “Bren Orton was an incredible human.

"Consumers continue to be even more discriminating with every dollar that they spend as they faced elevated prices in their day-to-day spending," McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said on the company's conference call in late April. Paul Weaver | SOPA Images | Getty ImagesFor more than two years, consumers have dealt with sharply rising prices. But that doesn't mean the actual prices seen on grocery store shelves or restaurant menus will fall, and shoppers are feeling that pinch. While some CEOs have said that consumers are growing more cautious, others — like those in the airline industry — have celebrated strong and persistent spending. Corporate misfires can also lead to disappointing sales, even if their shoppers aren't necessarily pulling back on their spending.

There are more than 800 species of ticks found around the world, and 84 that have been documented in the United States. That's why it was surprising to see her willingly, without hesitation, leave her beloved phone on the kitchen counter when she attended a middle school dance recently. But she knew the school policy — phones aren't allowed. I knew the pickup time and she knew she could borrow an adult's phone or use the school phone to call me if need be. She danced every song all night and came home breathless and happy, declaring the dance "the best night ever." They can also ask to borrow an adult's phone or use the school phone.

Google is shifting to AI-generated answers for search queries to keep users on its site. This shift raises concerns about the reliability of AI answers and the impact on web traffic. You ask it a question, and it sends you to a site on the internet that can answer that question for you. And now the company is super-sizing that effort with AI-generated answers that are going to be the standard reply for all search in the near future. CNN —Kehinde Wiley, the American artist best known for painting former US President Barack Obama’s official portrait, has denied accusations of sexual assault. In an Instagram post shared Sunday, British-Ghanaian artist and curator Joseph Awuah-Darko alleged Wiley sexually assaulted him twice in 2021. Awuah-Darko said the first incident occurred on June 9, 2021, at a dinner held at the Noldor Artist Residency in Ghana, to celebrate Wiley’s work. In Sunday’s Instagram post, he wrote that reporting the assault in Ghana “would have been problematic at best — dangerous at worst,” given the country’s broader attitudes towards LGBTQ people. Wiley rose to international fame in 2017, when he was chosen to paint Obama’s official portrait for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.

The latest bad news on microplastics and human health emerged last week, when a study from researchers at the University of New Mexico examined 47 canine and 23 human testes, taken from neutering operations and cadavers, respectively. All of those testicles had microplastics inside — there were 12 different kinds of microplastic inside the organs studied, including the common plastic making material that plastic silverware and plastic bottles are made from. Woodruff isn't exactly surprised that microplastics are showing up in testicles. If approved by a panel of judges, the arrest warrants would be issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The decision to seek arrest warrants doesn’t immediately mean the individual is guilty, but is the first stage in a process that could lead to a lengthy trial. The ICC has so far issued arrest warrants against 42 people, 21 of whom have been detained with the help of member states. Signatory states are obliged to apprehend those facing arrest warrants, but leaders have often sought to evade those warrants, restricting their freedom of movement. "We as students, faculty and alums who are standing on the right side of history do not stand with Biden," said another Morehouse student, sophomore Anwar Karim. Most recently, Morehouse faculty were split over the decision to award Biden an honorary doctorate degree at the ceremony. Divisions on campus led to at least three meetings between Morehouse President David Thomas and students and faculty. That sentiment was shared by other Morehouse students critical of Biden's visit. But still, Biden's Morehouse visit will come amid a concerted effort by his administration and campaign this week to sharpen his message to Black voters.

Negative self-talk, or the experience of your inner monologue being hyper-critical, can erode your confidence. And, usually, whatever you're worried about doesn't actually come to pass, says Judy Ho, a neuropsychologist and professor at Pepperdine University. In her recent TED Talk, Ho describes how negative self-talk can undermine your goals. "Sometimes we think that negative self-talk helps us to be motivated," Ho told CNBC Make It. To defeat the cycle of negative self-talk, you have to be mindful of what triggers your pessimism and how to distance yourself from anxiety-driven thoughts.
