Santa Clara, California (AP) — San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall returned to the field for practice on Monday for the first time since he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery nine days before the season opener. The 49ers opened a window for Pearsall to begin practicing with the team while he remains on the non-football injury list. “I saw him warming up and I started smiling because I know how big of a factor he can be for the team,” rookie guard Dominick Puni said. Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square area and was hospitalized overnight. He avoided damage to any organs and nerves and was back working out at the team facility the following week.

Afterwards, Harbaugh said he left the game with an arrhythmia, also known as an irregular heartbeat. “I’ll always remember the one in 2012, it was during the Monday night game,” Harbaugh told reporters on Sunday. Harbaugh also recalled telling Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert ahead of Sunday’s game that he felt unusually pumped up. “I don’t know if I’m really fired up for the game or this is my arrhythmia kicking back in,” Harbaugh recalled telling Herbert.

The Dallas Cowboys were walloped at home Sunday, getting blown out to the tune of 47-9 by the Detroit Lions — the Cowboys’ fourth straight loss at home dating to last postseason. The Lions had a 27-6 lead after two quarters — continuing a disturbing trend for the Cowboys. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott struggled, throwing for only 178 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions before he was pulled in the fourth quarter. The loss dropped the Cowboys to third place in the NFC East, behind the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. After the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked if he was contemplating a coaching change.

CNN —Detroit Lions star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field with a broken tibia in the team’s 47-9 blowout victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Early in the third quarter, Hutchinson injured himself after sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. As he went to wrap up the QB, his leg collided with a teammate’s leg and he immediately fell to the ground. The Lions would rule him out for the rest of the game with a lower leg injury. Lions running back David Montgomery called Hutchinson’s injury an “unfortunate loss” for the team.

The commissioners of MLB, MLS, the NBA, NFL, NHL, NWSL and WNBA, as well as the president of NASCAR, are the brainchildren behind a new campaign to curb hate in America. The Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, founded by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, will back the campaign called “Timeout Against Hate.” Kraft met with the commissioners of the aforementioned sports leagues earlier this year to discuss a potential campaign, and they are committing $50 million to spread the message. “Why in sports do you take a timeout?,” Kraft told NBC News. Last year, Kraft met with more than 80 sports figures to discuss how sports could be used to combat hate in America. The commissioners ultimately gathered in the NFL’s “main conference room,” per Kraft.

Robert Kraft, Founder of the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS), Lights the Empire State Building to Stand Up to Jewish Hate and All Hate on October 7, 2024 in New York City. The biggest names in sports are joining forces in a new campaign to combat antisemitism. The Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, founded by Kraft, says 10% of U.S. adult males are blatantly prejudiced against Jewish people and tend to be outspoken about it. Kraft founded the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism in 2019 to help address the rising hate against Jews in the United States. In June, he announced a $1 million donation to Yeshiva University to cover tuition for Jewish students who wish to transfer.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Tank Bigsby was first hit 14 yards from the end zone by one Indianapolis Colts tackler and appeared to be wrapped up by another at the 11. Yet, with two teammates pushing him forward, he wound up with a touchdown instead of a short gain, a score that became part of Jacksonville’s first victory. Two minutes before halftime, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love dropped back into his end zone and was shoved with two hands — but not sacked for a safety — by a chasing Rams defender. Officially, he went 101 yards, 18 yards longer than Seattle’s previous franchise record for a fumble return.

In honor of Jayden Daniels’ historic start to his NFL career, the Power Rankings are checking in on rookies this week. Last week: 4Sunday: Beat Green Bay Packers 31-29The Vikings are having the NFL’s most surprising season without much help from their rookie class. Veteran wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury against the Chargers. Second-round wide receiver Ladd McConkey had a career-high 67 yards Sunday and leads the team with 173 receiving yards.
