It was a no good, very bad week for the “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” who happens to be the 46th president. We’re talking, of course, about the report a Justice Department special counsel filed on President Biden’s handling of classified material — the same kind of material Donald Trump left piled around the toilet. Bret: I used to joke that Trump’s behavior gave new meaning to the term “anal retentive.” Maybe we can start describing Biden as mnemonically challenged. Gail: While Trump’s behavior with classified documents was inexcusable, Biden’s was a lot less serious — inadvertently leaving stuff in the garage. But the counsel who cleared Biden of any serious misbehavior — a Republican — did seem to feel compelled to add that Biden’s excuse was “diminished faculties in advancing age.”

Where Can Gen Z Buy a Home?

If Gen Z can’t afford the rent, how are they ever going to buy a home? A recent study by Point2 examined housing markets in 100 of the largest U.S. cities, using earnings and employment data to find the places where Gen Z-ers have the best and worst chances of buying a home. Older Gen Z-ers, that is. The study found that Gen Z-ers are out of luck in most large cities. Richmond, Va., Newark, Boston and New York all were among the hardest areas for Gen Z-ers to own homes.

Next week, Biden will raise money in Pennsylvania and Maryland with the states' Democratic governors Josh Shapiro and Wes Moore. Young voters could be pivotal in an election year where the race is expected to be very close between presumptive nominees Biden and Republican front-runner Donald Trump. While young voters tend to favor Democrats, even a small drop in turnout among those voters – or a shift toward Republicans – could make a dispositive difference in battleground states. Biden has a dramatic disadvantage, compared with Trump, on the economy, even as young voters report overwhelmingly that their own financial situations are solid. That's on track with Biden's performance among young voters in 2020, when exit polls showed Biden took 60% of the youth vote, compared to 36% of young voters who voted for Trump. The data on young voters reflects a trend other polling has shown throughout the campaign season: Americans are unhappy with the ways things are going and don't want a Biden-Trump rematch.

KOLKATA, India, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Former champions Pakistan kept alive their slender chances of making the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh, who were eliminated from the tournament on Tuesday. Babar Azam's men moved into fifth place after their third win in seven matches, while Bangladesh became the first team to drop out of contention. "We are trying to force things but it isn't working," Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said after their sixth defeat in seven matches. Bradburn must have been pleased as the pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf collectively claimed eight of the 10 Bangladesh wickets in the match. "We are trying to win our remaining matches and see where we stand," Babar said of their semi-final hopes.

No team had ever recovered from a halftime deficit to win a World Cup final and the Springboks came out flying in the second half looking to drive home their advantage. It was the first try South Africa had conceded in four World Cup finals but Mo'unga missed the conversion from wide-out and the Springboks held on to the lead. Kolisi had by now returned to the fray after his card was not upgraded and South Africa brought their famed "bomb squad" off the bench to relieve fatigued forwards. South Africa winger Cheslin Kolbe was the fourth player to be yellow-carded seven minutes from time but New Zealand's Jordie Barrett struck the subsequent 48-metre penalty attempt wide of the posts. New Zealand had also been hoping to win a fourth World Cup and coach Ian Foster thought the way the cards for Cane and Kolisi played out had been a decisive factor.

U.S. President Joe Biden speaks at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 46th Annual Gala in Washington, U.S. September 21, 2023. President Joe Biden will host a second summit with Pacific Island leaders this week, part of a U.S. charm offensive to block further Chinese inroads into a strategic region Washington has long considered its own backyard. During the three-day meeting, the U.S. will announce diplomatic recognition for two Pacific Islands, promise new money for infrastructure — including improving Internet connectivity via undersea cables — and honor regional leaders at an NFL game. That plan was scrapped when a U.S. debt-ceiling crisis forced Biden to cut short an Asia trip. Manchester United also got a much-needed 1-0 win at Burnley to snap a run of three straight defeats in all competitions. Everton registered their first league victory of the season, producing an impressive display to triumph 3-1 at Brentford whose home struggles continued. The Italians led 17-8 at the break and later scored a superb 60-metre try through livewire wing Ange Capuozzo. Namibia’s wait for a first World Cup win extends to a record 23 games, though they also scored an excellent try via wing Gerswin Mouton. Italy were the first to score a try after 11 minutes when Lorenzo Cannone went over after a lineout maul with Namibia already down to 14 men as hooker Torsten van Jaarsveld was sin-binned. However, Italy were much stronger after the break and the difference in quality off the bench all too evident. New York CNN —Starting in November, Google will require political advertisements to prominently disclose when they feature synthetic content — such as images generated by artificial intelligence — the tech giant announced this week. Political ads that feature synthetic content that “inauthentically represents real or realistic-looking people or events” must include a “clear and conspicuous” disclosure for viewers who might see the ad, Google said Wednesday in a blog post. The rule, an addition to the company’s political content policy that covers Google and YouTube, will apply to image, video and audio content. In its policy update, Google said it will require disclosures on ads using synthetic content in a way that could mislead users. The Federal Election Commission has also been exploring how to regulate AI in political ads.

After piercing a daunting line of Russian defenses around the southern village of Robotyne, Ukrainian forces are now seeking to take the next step in their arduous counteroffensive, waging a fierce battle a few miles farther to the east, according to Ukrainian military commanders and U.S. officials. The intense fighting on Thursday comes amid weeks of brutal battles that have resulted in small but significant advances that Ukrainian forces are trying to exploit, with the broader goal of driving a wedge into the so-called land bridge between Russia and occupied Crimea, which is vital to the Russian military’s supply routes. The Ukrainian 46th Brigade, which is participating in the fighting in the area, said that its assault units were attacking Russian positions near the village of Verbove, nine miles east of Robotyne. The move toward Verbove is notable because it shows that Ukraine is confident enough in its hold on Robotyne that it believes its troops can try to press forward.
