Ark Invest's Cathie Wood, known for her investments in next-generation technologies, missed out on the jaw-dropping rally in Nvidia — the biggest winner in artificial intelligence this year. Her flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) exited Nvidia entirely in early January, before the chipmaker went on to enjoy a powerful rally that propelled it to a $1 trillion market capitalization. She even trimmed Nvidia holdings in her smaller funds on Thursday when the stock spiked 26% on a huge forecast beat driven by AI chip demand. & Robotics ETF (ARKQ) now has 4.4% in Nvidia, while its biggest holding is Tesla with a 14% weighting. In its base case, Ark believes Exact Sciences could compound at an average annual rate of 25%, reaching $140 by 2027.

The iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM) raked in more than $1 billion of inflows over the past week through Thursday's close, according to FactSet. The SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD) was another successful fund, pulling in about $270 million. Those flows are a notable contrast to the market's performance this week, where large tech stocks outperformed. Both gold and the Russell 2000 have fallen slightly in May, so the inflows could reflect investors buying a dip. ETF fund flows are not always a perfect gauge for what investors are betting on.

This particular conversation has been chewed over pretty thoroughly, and I've hit on it last week and the week before . And perhaps more relevant, last week saw at least tentative signs of a desired broadening out. It's worth pointing out too that the recent surge in the familiar Nasdaq megacaps has a lot to do with mean reversion, after the Nasdaq lagged the equal-weighted S & P 500 in 2002 by 20 percentage points. The NDX has been in a long-term structural uptrend relative to the S & P 500 for the past decade. As noted, the S & P 500 touched 4,200 late in the week before easing back a bit.
