And he said of Biden: “He said it again last night, that global warming is an existential threat. The global average sea level is currently rising more per year than Trump claimed that people say it will rise “in the next 497 years.”NASA reported in March that the current global average sea level rise in 2023 was 0.17 inches per year, more than double the rate in 1993. And a World Meteorological Organization report this year said the rate of sea level rise between 2014 and 2023 was about 0.19 inches per year. In other words, sea level rise is already more than an eighth of an inch annually – and it is accelerating. In fact, Trump’s claims about sea levels are highly inaccurate for the area near Mar-a-Lago, which is on the Atlantic.

U.S. crude oil on Friday traded near a two-month high and is on pace for a third-straight weekly gain as fears of war between Israel and the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah grow. West Texas Intermediate hit an intraday high of $82.72 per barrel, the highest level for the U.S. benchmark since April 30. U.S. oil is up about 1.8% for the week and 6.7% for the month of June. Hezbollah could target Israel's offshore gas operations if war breaks out, and Israel could seek to hit Iranian oil facilities, according to RBC Capital Markets. There is also a risk that Iran could attack tankers in the straight of Hormuz or abandon a détente with Saudi Arabia and hit the kingdom's oil facilities, according to the firm.

Read previewFormer President Donald Trump, 78, may have lied throughout the first presidential debate of the 2024 election, but the evening still may have provided a lift for his campaign as President Joe Biden, 81, struggled to find his footing during the debate. Trump and Biden had their first face-off on Thursday evening, breaking with election norms by holding a debate months before voters head to the polls in November. CNN's fact-checker, Daniel Dale, estimated that Trump said false or misleading statements 30 times during the debate. Throughout the Thursday debate, Biden's voice sounded raspy as the president struggled at moments to hold in a cough. "That's a question we can't answer because we've never had a debate this early," Siegfried told BI.

What exactly are "Black jobs" — and are they really at risk from the recent surge of immigrants? "They're taking Black jobs, and they're taking Hispanic jobs, and you haven't seen it yet, but you're going to see something that's going to be the worst in our history." It's true that Black workers have historically been overrepresented in certain sectors like government and home health care. When it comes to pay, inflation-adjusted weekly earnings for Black workers reached a two-decade high of $314 under Trump. But amid persistent inflation and a cooling job market, Black workers' average weekly earnings declined in the most recent quarter to $293.

I watched the Biden-Trump debate alone in a Lisbon hotel room, and it made me weep. I cannot remember a more heartbreaking moment in American presidential campaign politics in my lifetime — precisely because of what it revealed: Joe Biden, a good man and a good president, has no business running for re-election. And Donald Trump, a malicious man and a petty president, has learned nothing and forgotten nothing. The Biden family and political team must gather quickly and have the hardest of conversations with the president, a conversation of love and clarity and resolve. The Republican Party — if its leaders had an ounce of integrity — would demand the same, but it won’t, because they don’t.

Some of the heat is coming out of home prices, even though they're still higher than they were a year ago. Several new reports show the price gains are shrinking and home sellers are starting to give in after a stagnant spring market. A year ago at that time the typical home was selling at list price. Two years ago it was selling at about 2% above list price. While most sellers are still listing their homes at higher prices than comparable homes sold for a year ago, some are conceding that they simply can't command those prices.
