In the 1980s, roadkill played a key role in lynx mortality in the Doñana area (a prominent spot for the Iberian lynx) accounting for almost 17% of deaths. That may not sound like much, but Breitenmoser explains that given that lynx populations were critically endangered at the time, the impact was significant. Ortiz says that in a five-year timeframe, almost €4.5 million ($5 million) will be spent on improving habitats and nearly €2.9 million ($3.2 million) on boosting connectivity, including virtual fences. Innovation aside, for Ortiz the future of the Iberian lynx depends on co-operation.

But then San Diego native and decorated cyclist Jennifer Valente bailed out the United States by defending her gold in the women’s omnium. Also Friday, amid mounting pressure, Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell announced he would retire by Aug. 31, saying it had become clear that he could not continue effectively in his role. The encounter ended with Grayson shooting Massey in the head. After shooting Massey, Grayson discouraged the other deputy from rendering aid, citing the severity of her injury, according to body camera video. The deputy still rendered aid and stayed with Massey until medical help arrived, prosecutors have said. On July 17, Grayson was fired from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, where he had been employed since May 2023.

In January, U.S. bitcoin miner Core Scientific was bankrupt and battling angry lenders. Core Scientific will deliver an additional 112 megawatts of computing infrastructure to support CoreWeave's operations. Core Scientific said the deal will generate an additional $2 billion in revenue over 12 years, on top of an existing arrangement that's expected to bring in $4.7 billion. In total, the company plans to provide about 382 megawatts of infrastructure to CoreWeave by the first half of 2026, with the possibility of adding 118 megawatts at other Core Scientific sites. "We've seen tremendous growth since our emergence in January and have been laser focused on developing best-in-class digital infrastructure," Core Scientific CEO Adam Sullivan told CNBC.

CNN —Donald Trump’s campaign said Thursday that its political operation raised $138.7 million in July for the former president’s election effort – and amassed $327 million in cash reserves for the roughly three-month sprint to the election. Trump’s total represents a jump from June, when the former president’s campaign and aligned committees reported bringing in nearly $112 million. But the July total was dwarfed by the fundraising haul of his newly minted Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, whose campaign said it raked in a whopping $310 million in its July fundraising efforts.
