WASHINGTON — With just two weeks left in the 2024 campaign, there currently are no plans for Vice President Kamala Harris to appear on the trail with President Joe Biden before Election Day, according to three Harris campaign officials and three White House officials. Biden last appeared with Harris at a campaign event nearly seven weeks ago, on Labor Day in early September. That’s a contrast to former President Obama, who has headlined a series of Harris campaign events, and former President Bill Clinton who has also been on the trail for the vice president. First lady Jill Biden has headlined multiple events for the Harris campaign as well and is set to hit the trail for her again on Wednesday in Nevada. White House and campaign officials say the president understands the strategy behind his downsized role in the campaign, even if at times he doesn’t like it.

Rock guitarist Jake E. Lee was struck multiple times early Thursday in a Las Vegas street shooting, his management said in a statement. Officers responded to the shooting around 2:45 a.m. and found Lee with gunshot wounds, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. His management said Lee is "fully conscious and doing well" in an intensive care unit and is expected to fully recover. Lee's management said Las Vegas authorities believe the street shooting was "completely random" and took place when Lee was walking his dog early Thursday. Lee spent time performing alongside Ozzy Osbourne in the 80s and then performed with the heavy-metal group Badlands.

WASHINGTON — A group of national security experts led by Cabinet members from the Trump administration endorsed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, citing his foreign policy record and calling him "a peacemaker." The group, organized by former Trump national security adviser Robert O'Brien and former National Security Council chief of staff Alex Gray, wrote in a letter that "securing peace" is "the legacy of Trump." The letter comes amid an escalating conflict in the Middle East between Iran and Israel, as well as Russia's war in Ukraine. "The policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have invited conflict, diminished America’s standing around the globe, and imperiled our national security," the letter says. The signers do not include Trump's first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, or his secretaries of defense, James Mattis and Mark Esper.

A Seoul court sentenced a senior police officer to three years in prison on Monday, convicting him of contributing through negligence to a Halloween crowd crush that killed nearly 160 people in 2022 in one of South Korea’s worst peacetime disasters. Lee Im-jae, the former chief of police in Yongsan District, the area in central Seoul where the disaster happened, was the most senior police officer to be found guilty of a crime related to the shocking tragedy. Victims’ families remain deeply unsatisfied and angry with the government’s investigation into the deadly crowd crush. So far a handful have been convicted, with the longest sentence being handed to Mr. Lee. But on Monday, the district court acquitted Park Hee-young, the elected mayor of Yongsan District, of criminal negligence, allowing her to continue in office.
