Mike Segar | ReutersBEIJING — Chinese authorities this week announced new policy for supporting venture capital, raising hopes for faster approvals of initial public offerings in the near future. The new policy included a section on expanding exit channels for venture capital, with an emphasis on supporting companies with technological breakthroughs. Investors, especially those who put U.S. dollars into China-based venture capital funds, have preferred IPOs in the U.S. as the largest and most liquid market. Separately, the U.S. has increased its scrutiny of U.S. capital going into China, especially military-related entities. The China Securities Regulatory Commission has increased fines for misleading investors and clarified requirements for overseas IPOs.

Former Vice President Mike Pence at the US Capitol on May 16, 2024. This despite history suggesting that, at some point in their potential mandate, a possible President Trump might ask them to so something that tests their consciences, the law or the Constitution. The attractiveness of the vice presidential nomination may reflect Trump’s magnetism and the heady euphoria of being a key player in the “Make America Great Again” movement. He has also made clear to Trump that he wouldn’t have adopted Pence’s interpretation of the constitutional limits on vice presidential powers. Burgum has taken a classic route of parlaying an unsuccessful presidential campaign into a spot in the vice presidential derby.

“We are actively investigating a cyber incident,” CDK spokesperson Lisa Finney said in a statement shared with CNN. To protect customer privacy, customer’s details aren’t written out on a piece of paper that’s just sitting on the desk anymore. Instead, information about deals and customer appointments is kept in a server that’s now impossible for his salespeople to access. But it’s a major hassle in the meantime and could cost his dealerships some business. A statement shared by CDK later in the afternoon said some of the company’s system had been restored to operation but not all of them, yet.

More than just uncomfortable, the heat can be dangerous and at worst deadly, and it’s only becoming more of a threat with climate change causing rising temperatures. Prolonged exposure to or physical exertion in excessive heat can cause heatstroke, according to the Mayo Clinic. Starting Tuesday, cooling centers — indoor, air-conditioned spaces for public use — will be open during the day in New York. At night, because heat can disrupt sleep, 60 to 67 degrees is recommended by the Cleveland Clinic. It depends on the animal, and its size and type, but pets are generally less tolerant of higher temperatures than humans.

New York's highest court on Tuesday dismissed former President Donald Trump's appeal of the gag order in his criminal hush money trial. The New York Court of Appeals in a brief decision declined to hear Trump's bid "upon the ground that no substantial constitutional question is directly involved." The decision means Trump's gag order, which bars him from speaking about jurors, witnesses and other parties involved in the Manhattan Supreme Court case, remains in effect. Trump's attorneys asked Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the trial, to terminate the gag order because the trial is over. The Trump campaign and the lawyer who filed the gag order appeal to the state's top court did not immediately respond to CNBC's requests for comment.

Some areas could endure the longest heat wave they’ve seen in decades, the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center said. Tens of millions of people who aren’t used to heat this intense will be sweating in temperatures well into the 90s this week. Through the rest of the week, the most extreme heat risk is in place from the Great Lakes into the Northeast, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity will also join forces with extreme heat to create triple-digit heat indices – measurements of how hot the human body feels – in some areas. Chicago residents could feel heat indices between 95 and 105 degrees through next week, the NWS in Chicago warned.

Coming on Tuesday, Microsoft plans to start selling new AI-enabled laptops at Best Buy, with roughly 40% of Copilot+ PCs exclusive to the retailer. We think that high-end offerings like these will give Best Buy a much-needed boost in sales and later for its stock price, too. In Monday's note to clients, the analysts also said that Best Buy can get a "volume benefit from lowering prices on previous models of the same product." That's a key reason why we first initiated our position in Best Buy earlier this year. People walk past a Best Buy store in Manhattan, New York City, November 22, 2021.

Short of money, nonprofit theaters around the country are staging fewer shows, shedding jobs, and in a few cases, closing.
