Netflix has just announced the next leading lady for “Bridgerton”: Korean Australian actor Yerin Ha. Ha, 29, who is known for her work in “Halo” and “Dune: Prophecy,” will star as Sophie Baek, the love interest of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) in season 4 of the hit period series. “What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome,” Ha told Tudum. “It wasn’t until I started seeing the monitors and the shots of me and Charithra [Chandran, who played Edwina] on screen and it was two dark-skinned Indian women, two Tamil women on screen,” Ashley told NBC News in 2022. Earlier this year, Bailey promised to turn out $100 million and 5 million votes for Trump. Hoyos-López, Bailey's neighbor, had been recently orange-pilled, and was anxious to help out any way she could in getting Trump to Nashville. At the conference, Hoyos-López, Fabiano and Bailey worked to stage a second roundtable with Trump. To Fabiano, Bailey, and Hoyos-López, the stakes couldn't possibly be higher, as Democratic nominee Kamala Harris gains momentum in the polls. Less than a week after leaving Nashville, Fabiano, Hoyos-López and Bailey were back together closer to home to process all that had happened.

Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England, waits to deliver a lecture at the London School of Economics in London, UK, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey will hail the progress made in dampening inflation in the U.K. in a Friday speech, but also caution that monetary policy may need to remain restrictive for longer than expected due to shocks from the labor market. Headline price rises in the U.K. hit the BOE's 2% target for two months this year, before rising to 2.2% in July. However, he will caution that two less "benign" scenarios remain possible that will require the Bank of England to "maintain restriction for longer." It comes after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Friday gave his firmest comments yet indicating that interest rate cuts lie ahead for the world's biggest central bank, stating: "The time has come for policy to adjust."

CNN —The New England Patriots won their first game in over 24 years without legendary coach Bill Belichick in charge, beating the Carolina Panthers 17-3 in their opening preseason game on Thursday. Third-year quarterback Bailey Zappe played a larger role, before rookie QB Joe Milton III finished the game. Milton III throws a pass to teammates Terrell Jennings in the second half against the Panthers. The last time New England won without Belichick on the sidelines was on January 2, 2000, when the Pete Carroll-led Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens 20-3 in Foxborough. The last two races of the Paris Games were a gold rush for the U.S., with both the women and men dominating the 4x400-meter relays Saturday. A three-time gold medalist after wins in the 200-meter and 4x100-meter relay, Thomas helped widen the gap in the third lap that McLaughlin-Levrone created in the second. In the last lap, it came down to a race between two gold medalists: Benjamin and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo. With the victory, 16-year-old Quincy Wilson — who ran earlier in the week for the U.S. but not in the final — is now the youngest Olympic track-and-field gold medalist ever. He is also the youngest male U.S. Olympic gold medalist in any sport since 1952.

With that run, Wilson became the youngest male U.S. track Olympian, eclipsing middle-distance runner Jim Ryun, who was 17 at the 1964 Olympics. Wilson later became the youngest male Olympic track and field gold medalist ever after the U.S. 4x400-meter relay team — made up of Chris Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon, and Rai Benjamin — won gold over Botswana on Saturday. “I was kind of in the moment because I’m watching a 16-year-old running the Olympics — Olympics history,” Norwood said. Quincy Wilson competes in the men's 400-meter final at the U.S. Track and Field Trials on June 24. The showing led USA Track & Field to include him in the pool of runners eligible to run on a U.S. relay in Paris.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday declined to intervene in a long-shot lawsuit brought by Missouri attempting to block legal proceedings in former President Donald Trump's hush money case in New York. Brandon Bell / Getty ImagesNew York Judge Juan Merchan issued an initial gag order in March ahead of Trump’s trial. Bailey took the rare step of trying to sue the state of New York before the Supreme Court, which has jurisdiction over disputes between states. It would have been highly unusual for the Supreme Court to allow a state to interfere with judicial proceedings in another state. Before the trial, Trump was fined for violating the original gag order, especially as it related to Cohen, one of the key witnesses.

Over the decades he spent in prison, sentenced to life for a fatal shooting in 1990, Christopher Dunn faced one obstacle after another as he sought to clear his name. A Missouri judge had exonerated Mr. Dunn and ordered his release from prison. Dressed in a jacket and tie, Mr. Dunn was signing the last bit of paperwork when he overheard the warden taking a call, saying, “We were just about to release him — what do you want me to do?”The state attorney general, Andrew Bailey, had intervened to keep Mr. Dunn, 52, behind bars. He was ordered to change back into his prison uniform and returned to his cell, leaving the St. Louis prosecutor, who had asked the court to clear Mr. Dunn, scrambling to free him. Mr. Bailey, who took office 17 months ago to fill out his predecessor’s term, is trying to fend off a formidable challenger as he seeks a full four-year term as the state’s top law enforcement officer.

“I think it was the worst pressure you could ever be put under,” British former sprinter Allan Wells, who won 100m gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, told CNN Sport. “You run through it in your head thousands of times – the start, the gun going off,” Wells added. “It was the worst feeling you could ever have but still be in control of what you were hoping to achieve,” said Wells, one of only three British sprinters to win 100m gold at the Olympics. Safe-haven yen, Swiss franc soar as U.S. slowdown fears flare

Swiss Franc banknotes sit in the office of a bank in this arranged photograph in Zurich, Switzerland, on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015. The safe-haven Japanese yen and Swiss franc traded near multi-month highs against the dollar on Friday after an unexpected slump in U.S. manufacturing fuelled fears of a downturn, sending stocks and bond yields tumbling. The yen traded around 0.2% stronger at 149.085 per dollar, after popping as high as 148.51 overnight for the first time since mid-March. They were the only two major currencies to outperform the dollar overnight, which itself draws safe-haven flows, paradoxically even when the United States is the cause for concern. ECB policymaker Yannis Stournaras raised the risk of a weak euro zone economy sending inflation below the 2% target in an interview published on Thursday, reaffirming his expectation for two rate cuts this year.

Boris Roessler | Picture Alliance | Getty ImagesLONDON — European stocks were set to open lower Friday, extending losses amid a global downturn as a busy week of market action draws to a close. Germany's DAX was on course to open 104 points lower at 17,984, according to IG data, with France's CAC 40 down 40 points at 7,325. The regional Stoxx 600 index on Thursday suffered its worst session since mid-June, pulled down by financials as French bank Societe Generale downgraded its outlook and the Bank of England cut interest rates for the first time since 2020. The central bank decision took its key interest rate to 5% from 5.25%, in a move that markets had not been fully convinced it would carry out. Asia-Pacific markets saw steep losses Friday, with Japan's benchmark indexes tanking as much as 5%.
