The international community continues efforts to evacuate civilians from the Gaza Strip, after an initial batch of foreign nationals was allowed to enter Egypt on Wednesday for the first time since the start of the conflict. Egypt is now working for 7,000 international passport holders to traverse the crossing, the country's foreign ministry said. More than 20,000 people remain injured with limited health care in the Gaza Strip due to the onslaught on the territory, according to Doctors Without Borders. He made the comments in response to a protester interrupting him at a fundraiser, calling for a cease-fire. Later this week, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to travel to Tel Aviv, Israel and Amman, Jordan.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

Meta said on Monday that it will introduce an advertisement-free subscription option for Facebook and Instagram for the first time beginning next month for users in Europe, a sign of how government pressure is leading large tech companies to change their core products. The social networking company said it was complying with “evolving European regulations” by introducing the subscription option in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Unlike the reaction to similarly decent results from some of its Big Tech peers this week, shares in the online retail giant Amazon climbed 5% after hours. And both Nasdaq and S&P500 futures were set to bounce into the weekend later after the cash markets closed at their lowest since May.
