Harris is scheduled to visit a border town in Arizona on Friday, her campaign announced Wednesday. Trump has made the border and immigration a centerpiece of his pitch for the presidency, making multiple visits to the southern border during the campaign. Friday's visit to Douglas, Arizona, will be Harris' second trip to the southern border during her term as vice president. NBC News reported in August that shelters on the southern border and in some major cities experienced sharp declines in migrants seeking shelter over the past several months. Border Patrol agents in June apprehended the lowest monthly number of migrants crossing the southern border since President Joe Biden took office.

The GOP nominee announced his latest branded merchandise, Trump Watches, on social media Thursday – 40 days before the election and on a day when he did not appear on the campaign trail. A disclaimer on the website discloses that neither Trump nor his company designed, manufactured, distributed or sold the watches. Rather, a company named “TheBestWatchesOnEarth LLC” licensed the Trump name to sell the line of wrist watches. This week, he also launched “Trump Coins” – a 1oz .999% silver medallion with the former president’s face on one side and his signature on the White House on the back. Like the watches, the Trump Coins are the result of another licensing deal.

Bernie Moreno, Republican Senate candidate for Ohio, at the RNC in Milwaukee, Wis., on July 16. “Honestly I think Bernie is heading in the right direction but handed Sherrod an opening with that.”Democrats have been hammering Republicans across the country on the abortion issue. In 2022, exit polling found Democrats had an 11-point advantage on the issue of abortion. And in this new NBC poll, Harris’ advantage was just under 20 points.

Trump was surrounded by Secret Service agents at his North Carolina event on Wednesday as he greeted supporters in the rope line. Congress just approved funding for both Harris and Trump to receive presidential-level protections, which one security expert said was unprecedented. “They are all now getting presidential-level protection from the U.S. Secret Service, which has never been done before,” said Evy Poumpouras, a former Secret Service agent. In a statement Tuesday, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung disclosed that Trump had received an intelligence briefing about Iran. An official with the Trump campaign said it had no intention of altering or modifying its campaigning after this briefing.

A new Senate report details what went wrong before the assassination attempt against Donald Trump in July. More adults than thought may have an iron deficiency. → After a sniper with local law enforcement texted a Secret Service leader about the man who would soon fire shots at Trump, it took seven minutes for the Secret Service leader to send an email relaying the information and photos. The U.S. Forest Service says it will not hire seasonal employees in the next fiscal year because of expected cuts to its budget, just as fire seasons grow longer, hotter and deadlier. “As an agency, we have a responsibility to plan for the most conservative funding picture, and these actions reflect that reality,” Forest Service spokesperson Scott Owen said in a statement. Read previewAfter months of having to defend his age, President Joe Biden seems willing to discuss it — and its limitations — openly. Sitting for an interview on "The View" on Wednesday, he subtly acknowledged how age factored into his decision to drop out of the election. While Biden stopped short of pinning his decision on his age alone, he openly hinted at the toll being an 86-year-old president would have taken. At his State of the Union speech in March, Biden simultaneously joked about and worked hard to justify his age. When Whoopi Goldberg, one of the hosts, compared Trump to a bug, Biden slapped the table, miming killing the insect to raucous applause.

Why Trump is polling better in Georgia than North CarolinaBy Steve KornackiThe latest round of New York Times/Siena College state polls is a continuation of what has become a pattern: Donald Trump seems to be faring slightly better in Georgia than in North Carolina. And Trump is up by 2 points in North Carolina, where he prevailed by 1.3 points four years ago. And yet — at least in polling — it’s Georgia, not North Carolina, where Trump seems better positioned. According to exit polling, Trump won the noncollege white vote in each state by roughly the same margin in 2020: 59 points in Georgia and 57 points in North Carolina. It’s a smaller lead among a slightly smaller share of the electorate than Harris has over those early voters.

Half of registered voters plan to vote early this fall, new figures from the September NBC News poll show, with Democrats continuing to run up the score among early voters and Republicans getting stronger backing from those who plan to vote in person on Election Day. It's a smaller lead among a slightly smaller share of the electorate than Harris has over those early voters. The massive political difference of early and Election Day voters is the latest evidence of a dramatic and enduring shift in the Trump years. And with that jump came a massive partisan difference — future President Joe Biden led among early voters by 26 points in the survey, while Trump led with Election Day voters by 29 points. But while the share of voters planning to vote early has dropped between the end of 2020 and now, the major partisan split remains.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump cast himself as a “protector” of women at a Pennslyvania rally Monday evening and claimed that American women won’t be “thinking about abortion” if he’s elected. “I always thought women liked me. But the fake news keeps saying women don’t like me,” Trump said in Indiana, Pennsylvania. As president, I have to be your protector,” Trump said. Americans remain broadly opposed to the ruling, according to CNN polling, and its proven to be thorny campaign issue for Republicans in down-ballot races.

In today's edition, our team breaks down a key Nebraska state senator's decision to stand in the way of a Trump-backed drive to change how the state allocates its electoral votes. Trump allies have pushed for a special legislative session intended for the Republican-controlled legislature to change Nebraska to a winner-take-all system instead of awarding electoral votes by congressional district. The developments appear to cap months of deliberations over whether Nebraska lawmakers could change the way the state apportions its electoral votes in a way that would benefit Trump. Nebraska allocates its electoral votes by congressional district, and the swing district around Omaha has twice gone to Democrats in recent years, giving them one electoral vote from an otherwise ruby-red state. But if lawmakers changed that to a winner-take-all model, Trump would be all but certain to win all of Nebraska’s electoral votes.

"The key to finishing our work this week will be bipartisan cooperation, in both chambers.”Last week, 14 House Republicans teamed with nearly all Democrats to torpedo a six-month funding bill that included the SAVE Act. “It’s, in my opinion, galactically stupid to do a government shutdown even after an election. Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, took steps last week to tee up a vote on a government funding bill, preparing the upper chamber to step in if Republicans in the House flame out again. Some Republicans had pushed for the House to act quickly, worried that a funding bill passed by the Democratic-led Senate could be loaded up with extraneous spending. If Congress succeeds in passing the new House CR before the Oct. 1 deadline, they'll have another shutdown fight awaiting them in December.

This June 2024 photo provided by Aleut Community of St. Paul Island Ecosystem Conservation Office shows a rat trap that was placed under a residential building on St. Paul Island, Alaska, after a resident reported an alleged sighting. Rodents have been removed successfully from hundreds of islands worldwide — including one in Alaska’s Aleutian chain formerly known as “Rat Island,” according to the U.S. Around the developed areas of St. Paul, officials have set out blocks of wax — “chew blocks” — designed to record any telltale incisor bites. Still, it took nearly a year to catch the last known rat on St. Paul, which was believed to have hopped off a barge. The success of what was long called Rat Island, a tract in the Aleutians roughly half the size of Manhattan, shows how effective eradication programs can be.

JOHANNESBURG Associated Press —An American woman who went missing while on a hike on Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, has died and her body has been recovered, authorities said on Monday. The woman has been identified as a 20-year-old student from North Carolina named Brook Cheuvront. The management of SANParks, which manages Table Mountain and other national parks, said the cause of death was still unclear and an inquest into her death has been opened. An initial search was conducted by rangers, wilderness search and rescue members, and trail runners until late Saturday evening when it was no longer practical to continue, said Louw. South African authorities have urged people to avoid hiking on their own, suggesting it be done in groups of at least four people.

Since leaving office, Trump has held regular conversations with foreign leaders. The three people who lost their lives in Alaska are just a few of those who have died on trips to see the world’s fast-disappearing glaciers. But there’s also another motivation increasingly present — the desire to see the glaciers before they disappear. In Alaska, Sheldon used to be able to find a good area for ice climbing for the whole summer. Many are convinced danger is manageable, he told CNN, but “if you’re honest about it, that might often be a rather naive understanding.”As well the safety issues glaciers pose tourists, tourists are also a huge risk to the glaciers themselves. As the glaciers shift, so too will glacier tourism, something that’s starkly clear to Sheldon.
