Although Carvana raised its guidance for the third quarter, Morgan Stanley still sees a shaky path forward for the used-car retailer. "Significant challenges remain with respect to the used car consumer and the viability of CVNA's long term business model," Jonas wrote in the note. "Even considering our expectation of continued recovery in the business and less bearish views on the used car market, the stock's reward-skew and downside to PT keeps us UW." Carvana shares got crushed last year, losing more than 97% as higher prices for used cars pressured the company. Still, Carvana "has a lot to prove, in our view," according to Jonas.

The Future of Rap Is Female
  + stars: | 2023-08-09 | by ( Niela Orr | Photographs Adrienne Raquel | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +22 min
The Future of Rap Is Female As their male counterparts turn depressive and paranoid, it’s the women who are having all the fun. In the mid-’80s, the dynamics shifted slightly, when UTFO released “Roxanne, Roxanne,” a comical torch song dissing a woman who rejected the men’s advances. Like good sex, raunchy rap is only fun if all parties are completely enthusiastic, and this music provides necessary female perspectives to match what the men make. In Miami one weekend in late July, Rolling Loud, one of the biggest annual hip-hop festivals, made itself into a microcosm of the rap world. There’s a relentless gender pessimism in the air, too — on the street, on dating apps, in the Supreme Court and, of course, in rap music.

Despite the overhang of the Hollywood labor strikes, "a significant bull case remains" for Cinemark , according to Morgan Stanley. Analyst Benjamin Swinburne raised his price target on shares to $24 to $22, suggesting 36.9% upside from Friday's close. This is based on further box office growth in '24, but '24 attendance at just ~70% of '19 levels which we see as potentially conservative. "Strikes-aside, studios continue to build back production and we expect increased film supply from both traditional and streaming studios over the next few years. The analyst added that Cinemark is "uniquely positioned" to benefit from the North American box office recovery owing to a combination of factors, including its conservative balance sheet pre-Covid.
