We're buying 300 shares of Foot Locker (FL) at roughly $38.69 each. We're using the recent weakness in Foot Locker to add to our small position and improve our average cost basis. Sure, Foot Locker's stores are a great place to pick up the latest Steph Curry sneaker from Under Armour. A year later, she came back for the Foot Locker job, which we think speaks volumes about her commitment to overhauling the sneaker chain. As we wait for this turnaround to play out, Foot Locker offers a 4.11% annual dividend yield, which adequately compensates us for our patience.

In 2021, the foundation raised a record-breaking $102 million, up 42 percent from the previous high in 2019. Those projects have won support across the political spectrum, including from Gov. “The scholarship of decades has shown us this fuller, richer picture of Early America,” Wulf said. But it’s the real thing.”A Patriotic ShrineColonial Williamsburg has its own complicated founding story. In the 1920s, a local minister persuaded John D. Rockefeller Jr. to quietly buy most of the historic area, with the goal of recreating Virginia’s 18th-century colonial capital, down to each historically correct brick and nail.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, a brand called Lu Style opened four new restaurants in the last three years in Beijing and Shanghai. Since Lu Style launched in 2016, more people no longer focus on just being able to eat, said Tian Junfeng, director of operations. Tian said Lu Style will be focused on improving customer service in the coming months. The 2023 rankings selected 304 restaurants — most of which were in China, including Lu Style. The shops, called Market by Macy's and Bloomie's, are about one-fifth of the size of the retailer's typical Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores. It has not announced the locations of the four Market by Macy's stores, but said the additional Bloomie's store will be in Seattle. By opening the strip-mall shops, the retailer could steal business away from its larger namesake mall stores. Market by Macy's stores have worked best in shopping centers with grocery anchors or stores such as off-mall retailers that draw traffic, Mastronardi said. Melissa Repko | CNBCInside of Market by Macy's, shoppers find a narrower mix of merchandise than in the mall stores.
The event helped train the Air Force to use roads in case runways aren't an option. But that didn't stop the US Air Force from using the roads to land several aircraft — including one of its biggest planes. An MQ-9 Reaper with the 2nd Special Operations Squadron lands on Highway 287 during Exercise Agile Chariot near Rawlins, Wyoming, April 30, 2023. Air Force planes — including the MC-130J and Warthog — have landed on stretches of highway in recent years in places like Michigan, Latvia, and Sweden. And the Air Force Special Operations Command has even explored modifications to the MC-130J to allow it to land in water.
Consider the increasingly widespread practice of appending a “positionality statement” to one’s research. This is an explicit acknowledgment by the author of an academic paper of his or her identity (e.g., “nondisabled,” “continuing generation”). Positionality statements were first popular in the social sciences and are now spreading to the hard sciences and medicine. The purpose of a citation in an academic publication is to substantiate claims and offer the most relevant supporting research. Many prominent science journals now recommend that before submission, authors run their papers through software programs that detect any citation bias.

Goldman Sachs has a number of generative AI proof of concepts in place. Photo: Brendan McDermid/REUTERSThe pace of new developments in artificial intelligence came faster than expected for corporate technology leaders. Many have spent the past few months grappling with how and where they can leverage the new capabilities of generative AI and large language models, or LLMs, from categorizing reams of business documents to writing code. “The technology is changing so fast in front of our eyes that I think it’s almost like the limit is ourselves and being able to rationalize it,” said Marco Argenti, chief information officer of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
During a panel, Ashton Kutcher said that companies not using AI tools like ChatGPT will shutter. In fact, actor-turned-investor Ashton Kutcher is so impressed that he thinks businesses that aren't using AI tools will suffer. Vesper Lounge is owned by Bonanno Concepts, which said it cut spending on Indeed by roughly 90%, largely because of the new pricing strategy. Photo: Joni SchrantzThe largest job-search site has run afoul of the small-business community. Indeed.com began changing how it charged employers for connecting them with job seekers, pitching the shift as better for small businesses because they could choose which applications to review and pay only for the ones they liked. Instead it created confusion and unexpected costs for many business owners, and now the company is trying to minimize the fallout.

In strip malls across the country, Bed Bath & Beyond stores have "Closing Soon" signs. Its shuttered stores will kick off a land grab for retailers hungry for additional space. Bed Bath will join a list of other bankrupt companies, such as Kmart and Sears, that vacated spaces and made way for stores. Former Bed Bath stores could turn into a variety of other retail spaces, said Deborah Weinswig, CEO of Coresight Research, a retail advisory group. Weaker retailers' locations thinned out during the fallout of the Great Recession and again during the Covid pandemic, said James Bohnaker, senior economist with Cushman & Wakefield.

Bill Gates believes there's only one way to know if you truly understand a subject: Can you explain it to a child? If they successfully learn from you — which, in fairness, may also depend on your friend — it's a good sign that you're on the right track. And while they may not have enjoyed the math lessons, Gates still said his teaching sessions were a "great" experience — at least, for him — because they reinforced his own love of math. "One of my favorite things was teaching calculus to the kids ... You have to explain why that's so important, and why they have those funny symbols," Gates said, adding: "It's crazy.
Tangaraju Suppiah, a 46-year-old Singaporean, was hanged early on Wednesday in Changi Prison and the family have received a death certificate, his sister Leelavathy Suppiah told CNN. Tangaraju was first sentenced to death in 2018 for “abetting the trafficking of more than one kilogram of cannabis (1,017.9 grams),” according to a statement from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). The court found he was in phone communication with two other men caught trying to smuggle cannabis into Singapore. “As is the case for many people currently on death row in Singapore, Tangaraju was forced to represent himself to seek a review of the Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold his conviction. Singapore has a strong reputation as a rule of law country so this concerning omission is not normal,” Perrett added.

Matt Huculak, a university librarian, used ChatGPT to help write a letter of recommendation for a student. The "heartfelt" letter may have helped the student win a prestigious scholarship to Cambridge. A screenshot of the ChatGPT-generated reference letter Huculak used as a template of what not to write. After all, writing a reference letter, Huculak said, "is a tremendously difficult task" that he finds "anxiety producing." "I think committees will quickly learn to spot ChatGPT letters," Huculak said.
