(AP) — Detroit Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone’s parents are among about 50 people affiliated with a Naples, Florida-based church that is praying for their safe return from Israel this week. Israel has vowed an unprecedented offensive against Hamas after the Islamic militant group’s fighters broke through the border fence Saturday and stormed into the country’s south. The war between Israel and Hamas has claimed at least 2,200 lives and raged for a fifth day. First Naples Communications Pastor Andy Wells said the church made contact with Pastor Alan Brumback, who is also on the overseas tour, on Wednesday. Lions coach Dan Campbell said he called Anzalone about his parents when he was informed of their plight Sunday night.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders' office planned to use Republican Party funds to reimburse the state for a $19,000 lectern, which was bought in June using a government credit card. The undated reimbursement note adds to weeks of scrutiny over the purchase, which has dominated political talk in Arkansas. Mars has said he has a client willing to give a confidential statement to lawmakers who has firsthand knowledge that Sanders' office interfered with open records requests. Earlier emails about the purchase released Monday don't reference plans for the Arkansas Republican Party to reimburse the state. Sanders’ office has not said what features contributed to the lectern’s seemingly high cost.

“It’s about time,” Franco-Clausen, co-chair of the National Black Justice Coalition’s Good Trouble Network, an initiative that aims to advance policies that benefit the Black LGBTQ+ community, told CNN. She is currently the only Black woman serving in the Senate, and the third ever to serve in the chamber. But Franco-Clausen said she hopes the California senator will usher in a new era of representation. Among Democrats, 52 Black women have served in the House and three have served in the Senate. David Johns, the executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition, said he believes Butler’s presence in the Senate is reflective of the work of previous Black LGBTQ+ political leaders.
