By the time intelligence collected on overseas ISIS targets connected the men to the terror group, they had already been vetted by immigration authorities and allowed into the country, officials said. The men remain in federal custody on immigration charges and will eventually be deported following the counterterror investigation into them. US officials and analysts who closely track Islamist terror groups do know that ISIS-K has dramatically ramped up its online propaganda machine. In a 2023 InterNations survey of over 12,000 expats, Germany was voted one of the countries expats hate to live in the most. Sadly, I'm also still stuck in my native English head, which doesn't delineate between a formal and informal "you," either. We're three hours by train from Amsterdam, three and a half hours by train from Paris, and four hours by train from London. Despite all the mistakes, misunderstandings, and episodes of embarrassment, I can honestly say that I'm grateful for everything living in Germany has brought me.
