Crypto marketplace OpenSea has been added to the SEC's list of targets, as the regulator extends its crackdown on the sector. The company's CEO said in a post on X on Wednesday that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued a Wells notice against OpenSea. A Wells notice is typically one of the final steps before the SEC issues formal charges. The letter, according to the OpenSea chief, alleges that the nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, sold on its platform are securities. In May, investment platform Robinhood announced it received a Wells notice for the company's crypto operations.

Lam aims to change that with NEX, which develops AI image tools for entertainment, gaming, and marketing. Founded in late 2023, the company recently raised a $3.5 million seed round led by Foundation Capital, with participation from Point72 Ventures. NEX does this by enabling users to generate images inspired by other images, not just text inputs, in a "real-time canvas." The startup's tech can also tailor the AI models based on a customer's existing data, a process called finetuning, or even develop models from scratch. Lam's vision for NEX is to be the "visual media tool for the AI era."

Amazon's AI sales guidelines criticize rivals including Google and Microsoft. AdvertisementAmazon has internal sales guidelines that deride the AI capabilities of some of its biggest rivals, including Google. But OpenAI's explosive popularity gave it a head start in generative AI; the internal sales guidelines indicate some AWS customers launched their first AI projects using OpenAI's technology instead of AWS's. "It's no secret that generative AI is an extremely competitive space. AWS has more generative AI services than any other cloud provider, which is why our AI services alone have a multi-billion dollar run rate," the Amazon spokesperson said.

Other talking points from the documents include OpenAI's lack of access to third-party AI models and weak enterprise-level contracts. "For generative AI workloads, AWS will compete most often w/ Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, OpenAI (directly), and Google Cloud's Generative AI on Vertex AI," one of the documents said. Instead, Amazon has prioritized selling AI tools like Bedrock, which gives customers access to third-party AI models. The sales guidelines also outline how AWS sales reps should respond to customers' questions about Microsoft and Google. In situations where Microsoft pitches its AI-powered analytics software, Fabric, to customers, AWS salespeople are instructed to say, "Microsoft Fabric is a new (unproven) offering."

That's because the National Flood Insurance Program — the government-sponsored public insurance program that is the largest flood insurer in the U.S. — needs to be reauthorized by Sept. 30 to continue to issue new policies or increase coverage on existing policies. "There are very few private insurers that offer any type of flood insurance," said Daniel Schwarcz, a professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School who focuses on insurance law and regulation. In that report, from 2011, it estimated a one-month NFIP lapse could affect about 40,000 closings. "There is no need to take the risk that the flood insurance program will lapse when you could close ahead of Sept. Then in 2021, FEMA implemented Risk Rating 2.0, a new pricing system that would accurately reflect the cost of an area's risk.

A judge in Kentucky has dismissed core charges against two former Louisville police officials involved in the raid that ended in Breonna Taylor's death. Judge Charles R. Simpson III of western Kentucky's U.S. District Court on Thursday said Taylor's death was triggered by the actions of her boyfriend, who opened fire when police arrived outside her Louisville apartment March 13, 2020. "Those violations resulted in Ms. Taylor’s death," he said in a statement at the time. Jaynes and Meany weren't at the raid, and her death was more directly tied to Walker's decision to open fire, the judge wrote. "The Court finds that the warrantless entry was not the actual cause of Taylor’s death," he wrote in his decision.

In fiscal 2022 and 2023 combined, Disney's experiences unit, which houses the parks, generated 67.5% of the company's operating income. That represents a significant deceleration in growth from its first and second quarters, when operating income rose 8% and 12%, respectively. Nispel argued that negative sentiment around Disney's theme parks performance could be a reason to have less conviction on the stock in the near term. The more excitement around its movies, the more interest in everything from theme parks to streaming services to branded merchandise. Operating income, in particular, rose more than $350 million year over year to $254 million.

Read previewChat GPT-5, the next version of OpenAI's language model that changed everything, is on the way. As AI developers wait to test GPT-5, some have found a new way to bootstrap their way to more advanced AI without an entirely new model. Fewer idle GPUs then translate to more affordable computing, as Davis explained on the No Priors podcast released Thursday. When Davis and his co-authors used the compound AI method, the layered model produced the correct answer 37% of the time — a nearly 10-fold increase. "I think people are getting more sophisticated at thinking about cost in more of a life-cycle way," Davis said.

While locking their credit won't solve all cybersecurity issues related to stolen Social Security numbers, it's one extra layer of protection parents can implement. Parents can take these steps proactively even if there's nothing to suggest a minor's credit has been compromised such as unexpected credit card solicitations or bills received in the minor's name. It can take some time and effort to lock a child's credit, but the outlay is minimal compared with what can be a lengthy and emotional credit restoration process. Locking a child's credit won't protect against all of these, but it's a solid step in the right direction, financial professionals said. To check to see if their child has a credit report, parents can mail a letter with their request to each of the credit bureaus.

CNN —Each of the 32 colossal stones that make up the Menga Dolmen, a 5,600-year-old megalithic monument in southern Spain, is many times bigger than the largest megaliths at Stonehenge, the most famous Neolithic wonder. The upright stones that make up the walls of the chamber were not perfectly vertical, tilting inward at a gentle angle to make the building narrower at the roof than at the floor and creating a trapezoid-shaped chamber. The team calculated that each of the upright stones lean inward at a largely uniform angle of 84 to 85 degrees. The upright stones that form the walls also lean sideways against one another at a consistent angle. The Menga Dolmen sits atop a hill near Antequera, Spain.

Bank of America has identified several stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) poised to benefit from the growth in artificial intelligence. The Wall Street bank surveyed its fundamental equity team of 130 analysts, covering approximately 3,400 companies, to identify the companies that stand to gain from AI across various sectors. The bank believes the development of AI is the third major tech cycle over the past five decades. The earlier cycles are the growth of the internet and mobile phone devices. "Despite AI capital expenditure potentially reaching [$1 trillion plus] in the near term, we're only in 1996 relative to the internet," said Bank of America analysts led by Alkesh Shah, who compiled the stock picks, on Aug 5.

That’s made home insurance increasingly unaffordable or even inaccessible – and that’s leaving more people in the same position as the Daneaus. California’s largest insurer, State Farm, requested a 30% rate increase for its homeowner’s line last month. Last year, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara reached an agreement with insurers with an aim to cover approximately 85% of properties in high-risk areas. “[My insurance plan] wasn’t canceled but my insurance company increased the rates quite a bit,” she said.
