Is Travel Insurance Worth It?
  + stars: | 2023-09-05 | by ( Kat Tretina | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +12 min
Trip cancellation and interruption coverage is the most common form of travel insurance, making up nearly 90% of travel protection plans sold. Travel medical: When you travel to another country, typical health insurance plans — including Medicare — don’t cover you. Like all forms of insurance, travel insurance policies don’t cover every event that can impact your vacation. “When you travel using airline miles and hotel points, most credit card travel insurance policies won’t cover the trips,” says Huffman. “If you do not get travel insurance, you are rolling the dice,” says Hines, who adds she always recommends travel insurance to her clients.

Apple buys Swedish classical record label
  + stars: | 2023-09-05 | by ( Jonathan Vanian | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Apple has acquired BIS Records, a 50-year-old Swedish record label with a focus on classical music, as part of its continuing efforts to attract classical music fans. BIS Records founder Robert von Bahr said Tuesday that Apple recently bought his record company and will fold it into its Apple Music Classical and Platoon music services. The acquisition is another example of Apple attempting to distinguish itself from streaming-music rival Spotify by focusing on classical music. In 2021, it bought the classical music streaming service Primephonic for an undisclosed sum. Eventually, the tech giant debuted its own Apple Music Classical streaming app this past spring, pitching it as a way for current Apple Music subscribers to access over five million classical tracks that can be searched via data like composer, conductor or catalog number.

But now, two studies released Tuesday suggest that a recently developed eye-tracking tool could help clinicians diagnose children as young as 16 months with autism – and with more certainty. She was not involved in the new studies, but her research focuses on early diagnosis of autism. The children were enrolled in the study between April 2018 and May 2019, and the eye-tracking tool was included in the assessments. Among the children, 335 had an autism diagnosis that their clinicians were “certain” of without using the eye-tracking tool. “There remains work to be done before an eye-tracking test is used in clinical practice.

It was days before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and the U.S. government was urging Americans to stay away from Russia. That’s when Bill Richardson boarded a plane to Moscow. The former New Mexico congressman, governor and cabinet member was pursuing his passion: freelance diplomacy with a dangerous foreign government. Back-to-school spending is expected to reach a record-high of $41.5 billion, according to the National Retail Federation's annual survey . The trends suggest certain retailers will fare better than others, with analysts favoring these stocks for back-to-school. According to a Stifel survey, retro basketball styles from Nike were the most popular choice for back-to-school this year. "These retailers have invested significantly in their private label assortments in recent years and continue to grow penetration," Jefferies analysts wrote in an Aug. 28 note. That could be a warning sign for the holidays as many investors look to back-to-school sales to set the tone for the winter season.

The breakfast value meal features four choices, including two types of biscuit sandwiches. I compared Wendy's biscuit meals to the same ones at McDonald's, and I was surprised at the results. But I set out to compare Wendy's to McDonald's, which has long been considered the king of fast-food breakfast. I bought the equivalent items and compared them on taste, price, and presentation. But I also thought Wendy's, which launched breakfast in 2020, could win on price if the food was halfway edible.

Once I tried out the line “Remember who you were before you had a permanent address.” The client scoffed. At the time I lived in a converted garage by a cemetery, the third place I’d moved in a year. The restaurant was unexceptional — plastic chairs, coarse tablecloths, low guttering candles — and perfect. AdvertisementAdvertisementI love cruises as a vacation option with an affordable fixed price, and my Virgin Voyages cruise was great. Vacations often come with surprise expenses — cruises are a great value and make it easy to know exactly how much you'll spend in advance, and my Virgin Voyages cruise was a great value. While the cruise ship itself offered plenty to see and do, I thought the four included stops were some of the best I have ever visited on a cruise. Finally, we loved the inclusiveness the Virgin Voyages brand builds into their cruise product, which helped make the cruise more carefree and fun. Now all I have to do is start planning how we'll spend days in port on our next Virgin Voyages cruise in February.

REUTERS/Loren Elliott Acquire Licensing RightsAug 30 (Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets from Jamie McGeever, financial markets columnist. Australian inflation, Japanese consumer confidence and German inflation figures later in the day are the main data points on Wednesday's economic calendar that could move Asian markets, which have started the week on a roll. A series of measures from China aimed at boosting domestic stock markets have had an immediate effect - China's benchmark index of blue chip stocks on Tuesday posted back-to-back gains of 1% or more for the first time since January. Money markets quickly swiped off the table expectations of another rate hike this year, short-dated yields plunged and stocks boomed. Put all that together and there is every reason to believe Asian markets will open in the green on Wednesday.

CNN —Developing cannabis use disorder is relatively common in Washington state, one of the first states to fully legalize cannabis, and can even occur in people who only use medical marijuana, according to a new study. “There’s a perception that people who are using marijuana for medical reasons have a lower risk of a cannabis use disorder,” said lead author Gwen Lapham, assistant professor at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine in Seattle. In addition, using both medical and recreational weed led to a more severe addiction than using medical marijuana alone, the study revealed. There are no current FDA-approved medications to treat cannabis use disorder, Lapham said, so behavior-based treatments or specialty addiction centers are the rule. A 2021 study found cannabis use disorder rose from 17.7% before marijuana was legalized in Canada to 24.3% after legalization.

“I feel like it’s totally underutilized,” she said about the fruity, moderately spiced pepper, named for a commune in France and prevalent in Basque cooking. When it comes to the piment d’Espelette, which turbocharges the flavor and pinkish color of this shrimp, you don’t have to pluck it from a Basque field. Be sure not to skip the orange zest, though; it brings out the Provençal wine’s inherent fruitiness. This last addition was a gift from another friend and colleague, Melissa Clark. Zested over the shrimp, the bittersweet orange lent balance and made the buttery sauce taste all the better.

In fact, credit card rewards have been a cornerstone of my finances since college. Eventually, I started blogging about travel rewards and now I write about credit card rewards for many well-recognized outlets. These days, I carry a slim-nylon surfer wallet containing only a Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards card. When I’m out and about, I no longer worry about which card I’m using and I’m earning an amount of rewards similar to what I would combining a 2% cash back credit card with numerous specialty rewards cards.
