(AP) — Wind energy developer Orsted is writing off $4 billion, due largely to the cancellation of two large offshore wind projects in New Jersey whose financial challenges mirror those facing the nascent industry. Some projects already have been canceled, and many offshore wind developers are seeking better terms from governments with whom they have already contracted. Despite the challenges, some wind projects are moving forward. Orsted said it is proceeding with its Revolution Wind project in Connecticut and Rhode Island. The scheduled Fed board meeting will mark the first time in over a decade that the central bank has proposed revising the fees, which generated around $24.31 billion for lenders in 2019, the most recent Fed data shows. House Republicans narrowly voted to nominate Rep. Tom Emmer for speaker on Tuesday after a series of votes where he edged out the latest slate of candidates eyeing the gavel. 2 House Republican, spelling uncertainty for Emmer’s prospects in a floor vote. As a member of leadership, Emmer had an edge over his opponents in his staff operation. But like those who came before him in the speaker standoff, Emmer is not without his opposition. Emmer voted to certify the 2020 election, he reportedly encouraged House Republicans to distance themselves from Trump in the midterm elections and, like other members of House leadership, he hasn’t endorsed Trump’s 2024 bid.

Financial markets currently see a nearly 99% chance the Fed will continue to pause rate increases in November, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. That means the Fed may not need to continue aggressively raising rates to bring spending — and inflation — down. A spokesperson from the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union told CNN that they support the organizers planning a walkout and protests. In a statement to CNN, Walgreens said about 20 stores out of about 9,000 had “disruptions over three days,” Oct. 9-11. Walgreens walkout organizers told CNN that their tally is much higher, with about 600 employees participating.

Foxconn is facing a tax probe in China, two sources close to the company said on Monday, confirming a report in China's state-backed Global Times. China claims Taiwan as its own territory and Beijing detests Lai, whom it believes is a separatist. Speaking at a news conference in Taipei and asked about Beijing's probe into Foxconn, Lai said China should "cherish and treasure" Taiwanese companies given their help in that country's economic development.
