Together with another protein, tau, which makes fibrous tangles that block the communication of nerve cells, they are considered a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. “There’s no evidence for it,” said Dr. George Perry, a neurobiologist and editor of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. Two members of the panel were employees of the Alzheimer’s Association, which also takes funding from pharmaceutical companies.
