I applied for a green card after working on my H-1B visa for a year. By this point, I had lived in the US for about six years and created a whole life here, but the green card process was very painful. The process makes life pretty horribleHaving a work visa and going through the green card process are privileges, but it is very hard to separate the emotional component. Luckily, Microsoft paid for the attorneys in the green card process, and no cost came out of my pocket. In 2022, I finally received my green card after three years.

CNN —The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration confirmed on Monday it is investigating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for allegedly decapitating a dead whale carcass and transporting it home two decades ago. A spokesperson for NOAA confirmed to CNN on Monday that Kennedy is under investigation for the incident. “It is long standing NOAA practice not to comment on open investigations,” the spokesperson said. In the interview, Kennedy’s daughter recalls her father using a chainsaw to cut off the head of a dead whale carcass on the beach near their Cape Cod family home and driving the whale’s head back to New York. Following the story gaining attention on social media, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund called for NOAA to investigate Kennedy over the incident, arguing his actions could have jeopardized scientific research.

Stouffer's is exiting the freezer aisle and taking on Kraft Heinz with its new shelf-stable mac and cheese. The average American consumer eats mac and cheese 22 times a year, trailing only pizza in its frequency, according to Moe. Out of those 22 occasions, the mac and cheese comes from a box about 70% of the time. To start, under the name Stouffer's Supreme, the brand will offer two variations on boxed mac and cheese: a classic cheddar and a three-cheese version made with cheddar, gouda and parmesan. Moe said the cheddar is a "sibling, not identical twin" of its frozen mac and cheese, while the three-cheese option is a "cousin."

On Monday, Harris made her pitch for the union's endorsement in the meeting with rank-and-file Teamsters, along with O'Brien and other members of the union's executive leadership. The meeting came as both Harris and her opponent, Republican former President Donald Trump, court working-class voters. The Winklevoss twins, Coinbase and Ripple didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Huge jump from 2020Delmore, who has been assembling reports on crypto donations in the 2024 election for blockchain analytics platform Breadcrumbs, told CNBC that industry spending is nearly double where it was in the mid-terms — more than $190 million in the 2024 election versus $98 million in the 2022 election. It's nearly 13 times spending in 2020 of $15 million — a figure based on a mix of data from FEC and OpenSecrets filings. Unlike the past two election cycles, which featured spending from the now-bankrupt crypto exchange FTX and founder Sam Bankman-Fried, this year's contributor list is more robust and diverse. "Most of the crypto donations in 2022 were from FTX and SBF and almost all of them went to Democrats or PACs that support Democrats," Delmore said.

Washington CNN —Speaker Mike Johnson is once again facing a major challenge as he navigates a government funding fight while under pressure from an extremely narrow majority in the House and former President Donald Trump. The course the speaker charts could also factor into whether he can hold onto his leadership post after the election. Trump has also waded into the funding fight, a dynamic that could further complicate the effort to avert a shutdown. But the plan is viewed as a non-starter in the Senate and faces opposition within the House GOP conference as well. “You’ve seen the chaos in the House because Speaker Johnson is trying to do this in a partisan way, guided by the far right.

My grief is not over the fact that they are in college, but that our family life is forever changed. AdvertisementAs the leader of a national organization focused on building a more inclusive democracy, I have traveled extensively for work. Without my child at home, I don't know what I'll have as a bulwark against work. But the sense of urgency that often informs professional life is largely unnecessary unless you're a healthcare professional or emergency aid worker. However purposeful and satisfying my professional life can be, I want to hold on to that part of my life that's not about producing, reacting, and managing people and problems.

CNN —JD Vance on Monday blamed liberal rhetoric for the apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump over the weekend. “I’d say that’s pretty strong evidence that the left needs to tone down the rhetoric, and needs to cut this crap out,” he continued. “But in particular, the people telling you that Donald Trump needs to be eliminated. “The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the social media post made by Elon Musk and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence,” a Secret Service spokesman told CNN. New York CNN —Amazon is demanding that its corporate employees return to the office five days a week, a significant change from its current pandemic-era hybrid policy that requires them to be in the office just three days a week. Jassy has previously advocated that employees work in the office, writing that a physical presence improves company culture. Last year, some corporate workers staged a walkout at its Seattle headquarters, citing multiple grievances, including the push to get workers back in the office at least three days a week. The walkout in May 2023 also occurred months after the company confirmed it was laying off some 27,000 workers over multiple rounds of cuts. Although companies in certain sectors, particularly on Wall Street, have emphasized a full return, companies have largely let up on demanding that employees work five days a week in the office.

The Philippines will continuously deploy vessels in the contested Sabina Shoal in the South China Sea, its coast guard said on Monday after a Philippine ship returned to port after a five-month deployment there. "We will sustain presence over these waters," Philippine Coast Guard Spokesperson Jay Tarriela told a press conference. The PCG's vessel, Teresa Magbanua, was deployed to Sabina Shoal in April to monitor what Manila suspects to be China's small-scale land reclamation activities in the area. Sabina Shoal, which China refers to as Xianbin Reef and the Philippines as the Escoda Shoal, lies west of the Philippine province of Palawan, within the country's exclusive economic zone.
