From January 2020 through August 2021, the risk of death for renters facing eviction was 2.6 times greater than it was in the general population, the study found. During the baseline period of 2010 to 2016, the mortality rate was 1.4 times higher for renters facing eviction than it was for the general population. Another study from December explored the risk between rising rent costs and mortality risk. Eviction filings were down 45% during the first two years of the pandemic, according to the new study.

CVS, which owns health insurer Aetna, on Wednesday slashed its full-year profit outlook, citing the potential for higher medical costs to bite into its profits. A fight is brewing in Washington over whether the mandatory retirement age for airline pilots should be raised from 65. The debate comes as baby boomers more broadly are reaching "peak 65" — the biggest number of Americans reaching that age in history. Age 65 has traditionally been thought of as retirement age. In France last year, pension reforms that raised the retirement age from 62 to 64 sparked fierce protests. Two major factors are behind the decline in the budget deficit this year, each of them one-off events that reflect the challenge for lawmakers in trying to close the growing gap between tax revenues and spending.
