The tiny pieces — intricately detailed gold foil figures discovered during excavations of a pagan religious temple — are a rare find in Norway. A total of 35 gold foil figures have been found at the Hov temple site. The remains of the Hov temple were uncovered in 1993 along with two gold figures. The five latest pieces uncovered were buried under the temple's walls and within post holes of the structure, leading researchers to believe the gold figures were placed there intentionally. The gold foils were pressed into a stamp dye made of bronze, similar to the process of making a coin, according to Watt.

Oct 10 (Reuters) - Two iconic guitars played by Eric Clapton and Nirvana's Kurt Cobain could each fetch $1 million to $2 million when they go up for auction in November. The Beatles' George Harrison gave it to Clapton after his guitar was stolen. The other guitar, also estimated between $1 million and $2 million, is Kurt Cobain's guitar, the "SkyStang I", which Cobain played during his final public performance on Nirvana's "In Utero" concert tour. The auction also features items belonging to Cobain, including his cardigan, jeans, and a pack of cigarettes, all of which he left behind at rehab. There are over 1,000 items going up for auction at Nashville's Hard Rock Cafe between Nov. 16-18 at the "Played, Worn & Torn: Rock 'n' Roll Iconic Guitars and Memorabilia" event.

CNN —Customs workers at a Minnesota airport discovered a traveler had brought a unique souvenir in her luggage: Giraffe feces. “The passenger declared giraffe feces and stated she had obtained the droppings in Kenya and planned to make a necklace,” the release stated. The agency’s agriculture specialists “seized the box, and the excrement was destroyed via steam sterilization” according to protocol, the release said. “The Missing Thread, Untold Stories of Black Fashion” is filled with photos like this, as the showcase dives deep into the history of Black British culture from the 1970s to the present day — specifically, how it has been a forgotten influence on the fashion industry. British Jamaican photographer Vanley Burke has spent over 50 years documenting Black British communities in Birmingham. London-born photographer Jennie Baptiste is another artist getting her dues in "The Missing Thread." At the center of the exhibition is the work of Black British designer Joe Casely-Hayford, who died in 2019. Casely-Hayford was nominated for Womenswear British Designer of the Year in 1989 and also Innovative Designer of the Year in 1991.

The company said Thursday it's begun a two-year bench jewelry apprenticeship program involving Tiffany and the Rhode Island School of Design. The move comes as Gen Zers rethink the idea of college as costs skyrocket and US student-loan payments are resuming following a pandemic hiatus. The programs work with colleges and universities to help conduct the training. LVMH has used apprenticeship programs to help develop the skilled artisans it needs for its brands.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Federal customs agents pooh-poohed the plans of an Iowa woman who wanted to make jewelry from giraffe feces she picked up on a trip to Kenya and brought back to the U.S. in her luggage. The woman declared the small box of feces when she was selected to have her belongings inspected upon arriving at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport on Sept. 29, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The woman, who was not identified, told officials she planned to use the waste to make a necklace, as she had done in the past with moose poop. Giraffe poop can be brought back to the U.S. with the proper permits and inspections, according to Minnesota Public Radio. The station reported that the woman won't face sanctions because she declared the feces and gave it to Customs.

Shopper demand for diamond jewelry influences rough diamond prices and, to an extent, retail prices. The plummeting prices follow two record-breaking years in rough diamond sales. But a drop in rough diamond prices does not mean shoppers will see cheaper price tags in stores. “The stock market is performing relatively well and employment is strong,” he said, paving the way for a gradual recovery of rough diamond prices in 2024.

French daily newspaper Le Monde reported that officials are looking specifically into real estate transactions between the two individuals in the ski resort of Courchevel. In 2018, Le Monde said, Sarkisov purchased multiple properties in Courchevel using intermediary companies. Investigators told Le Monde that the transactions look like they masked the origin of the funds, and who the ultimate buyer actually was.

CNN —The British Museum is appealing to the public in its efforts to recover some of the 2,000 artifacts it believes were stolen from its collections. “We’re dealing with lots of honest people who will return stolen items,” he told BBC Radio 4 last month. “Others may not.”The British Museum said it is working with experts, including "leading figures in the study of gems and jewelry,” to recover the stolen items. Founded in 1753, the British Museum is home to countless precious artifacts including the Rosetta Stone and the Parthenon Sculptures. In the previous quarter, the average ticket size had been down 3.5% compared to the same period in 2022. During that quarter, these items made up 55% of e-commerce sales but just 8% of in-warehouse sales, Galanti said during its earnings call in May. Audio product sales were up "a little" and TV sales were up but the average price point had come down, he said. From July to August, the average price of some items including tomatoes, eggs, cheese, rice, cereal, and bread declined, the data shows.
