A friend told him about another program that placed American “language coaches” in Spain, called “Auxiliares de Conversación,” (conversation assistants), run by the Spanish Ministry of Education. So that November he opened The Bridge English Academy in Manacor, converting a former wine store into classrooms to give English language courses to locals. A California firefighter was arrested on suspicion of arson in a series of small fires that burned in wine country in recent weeks, officials said Friday. Robert Hernandez, 38, was accused of setting five fires between Aug. 15 and Sept. 14 while off-duty, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, said in a news release. Hernadez, a Cal Fire apparatus engineer, allegedly ignited the blazes around Geyserville, Healdsburg and Windsor, the department said. More than 4 million acres burned across the state in 2020, setting a record for the largest number of acres burned in California in modern times, the department said. So far this year, nearly one million acres have burned, including fast-moving blazes in Southern California that threatened tens of thousands of homes and prompted thousands of evacuations in the foothills of San Bernardino County.

New York City ranks as the priciest city in the U.S. to retire, according to WalletHub's 2024 analysis of the best and worst places to retire. Following NYC, the two Hawaiian destinations that offer the highest quality of life for retirees — Pearl City and Honolulu — tied for second place. The median rental price for a one-bedroom apartment hit $4,500 a month in August, per Zumper's latest data. That's pretty steep compared with the national median rental price of $1,534 for a one-bedroom and $1,915 for a two-bedroom. The median rental price for all bedroom types in Manhattan is $5,000 versus $4,209 in Brooklyn, according to Zumper.
