A decade ago, Millennium Management managed $21.1 billion and had 18 senior people — all a part of the executive committee — listed on its website. Now the $64 billion multistrategy manager has 47 names on its leadership page split among divisions like the relatively new Office of the CIO. Executive teams are often just a firm's founder and a few trusted lieutenants. Many departures from the firm's top level have been executives launching their own funds or joining Millennium colleagues starting their own funds. Michael Gelband and Hyung Lee, who once ran fixed income and equities, respectively, brought the business-development pro Peter Hornick and the risk executive Dev Joneja with them when they launched ExodusPoint.

Despite the wild ride from a performance and volatility perspective, over the last six months, BTC has continued to do one thing very well – adhere to the technicals. It never violated the breakout zone from October'23 and hit the target by early March. Each prior falling wedge pattern breakout was accompanied by its RSI moving to overbought territory. Two Bullish Patterns on One Chart The second and third bullish formations appear on this chart. To reiterate, these targets are attained simply by adding the height of each pattern to the breakout points.

Back in April we covered the breakout in Southern Copper (SCCO) from $116 a share. I think it can hold that support again and, along with underlying copper futures, mount another attack on the highs. Copper demand just recently exceeded 25 million metric tons this year and with the explosion in AI and with the move towards clean energy, copper demand is expected to reach 40 million metric tons in the next 15 years. Turning to our focus stock, Southern Copper (SCCO), the chart is also pulling back into a very similar correction with anticipated support in the $115-$105 zone. Southern Copper beat their top and bottom line earnings estimates for Q1 in April, and looking ahead the growth is expected to continue.

Investors may not have sufficiently accounted for the impact of stretched consumer finances on the discretionary sector. We'll review the dichotomy going on in the consumer discretionary sector and give a bearish trade on an outperforming stock once thought to be immune from some of the pressures. To some extent, the haves and have-nots divide explains the difference between the consumer discretionary stocks that have outperformed versus underperformed this year. Horton, YTD However, two industry groups within the consumer discretionary sector have not followed this pattern to the same degree. It's a more aggressive approach than many investors employ, because being a short seller is infinitely more risky than buying shares. But when you short, the potential loss is unlimited because there's no guarantee a stock's price will fall; it could instead rally to extreme highs. These variables include low institutional ownership, low cash reserves, and market caps smaller than $250 million, among other characteristics that could signal a vulnerable stock. The S & P 500 is a mere 1.2% from its all-time high, yet only 60% of its member stocks are up for the year and just over 40% last week were above their 50-day moving average. .SPX YTD mountain S & P 500, 1-year We seem to undergo one of these periods of decrying a lack of market breadth every few months in recent years. Bespoke Investment Group last week looked at the small number of past instances when the S & P 500 was so close to a record yet most stocks were beneath a 50-day average. The 100-day correlation between the S & P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average has hit its lowest level since the dot-com bust of the early 2000s, according to CNBC's Data & Analytics group. The S & P 500 at the highs hit 21-times forward earnings, and we've spent very little time above that outside the pandemic melt-up and the tech boom/bust a quarter-century ago.

It's been a near-frictionless seven months for the S&P 500, with the benchmark index up a cool 26% since late October. While earnings were just fine in the first quarter, if they start to decline alongside a slowing economy, stocks will go with them. He sees the S&P 500 declining by more than 50% when all is said and done. The current inversion of 580 days implies a drop of around 65% for the S&P 500. Those fears have since dissipated, and the S&P 500 has rallied 47% since October 2022.

Institutional options traders frequently refer to "buying" or "selling" volatility, but what does this mean? These allow investors to trade future realized volatility against current implied volatility. A buyer of a variance swap pays the "implied volatility" - consider this to be the market's current expectation for future volatility over some predetermined period, in return for receiving the "realized volatility". A variance swap buyer will profit if realized volatility exceeds implied volatility, and a seller will profit if implied volatility exceeds realized. The first is that a VIX future is not as reactive to changes in the VIX Index as one might expect.

Doug Ingle, the Voice of Iron Butterfly, Is Dead at 78

Doug Ingle, the lead singer and organist of Iron Butterfly, the band that turned a purportedly misheard lyric into “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” the 17-minute magnum opus that propelled acid rock into the outer reaches of excess in the late 1960s, died on May 24. His death was confirmed in a social media post by his son Doug Ingle Jr The post did not say where he died or specify a cause. Mr. Ingle was the last surviving member of the classic lineup of Iron Butterfly, the pioneering hard rock act he helped found in 1966. The band released its first three albums within a year, starting with “Heavy” in early 1968, and, after a lineup shuffle, cemented its place in rock lore with its second album, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” released that July. A radio version of the title song, whittled to under three minutes, made it to No.

This report is from this week's CNBC's "Inside India" newsletter which brings you timely, insightful news and market commentary on the emerging powerhouse and the big businesses behind its meteoric rise. Separately, the stock market will also deliver its verdict when markets open on Monday. Nervousness among investors over the results has meant that the India VIX index, the market's so-called fear gauge, has shot up by more than 135% since its April lows. However, some equity strategists point out that even a landslide victory for Modi's BJP could potentially sour the stock market. Meanwhile, Gautam Chhaochharia, head of global markets for India at UBS, said foreign investors are in a "wait and watch mode" ahead of India's election results despite economic fundamentals looking "very, very strong."

CNN —As we near the end of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Regina Kim Courtesy Regina KimBut too often, efforts to honor the contributions of Asian Americans, however well-intentioned, fall short because people fail to differentiate between Asian Americans and Asian communities outside the US. A recent study by the Asian American Foundation found that over half of Americans can’t name a single famous Asian American. This may be one reason why so many Americans can’t name any Asian Americans of note. The media needs to make a conscientious effort to seek out, identify and spotlight Asian Americans — and not just during AANHPI Heritage Month.

"With yields holding firm at elevated levels , large caps continue to outperform small caps. Hopes for multiple rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year have dimmed after recent inflation readings showed signs of stickiness. An economy that is growing more slowly, but with cooler inflation, could be the combination small caps need.
