Al Sharpton why he should vote for him given his lack of formal political experience. Twenty years later, Ramaswamy is now a GOP presidential candidate with no political experience. In the clip, Ramaswamy, who was a college student at Harvard University at the time, asked then-Democratic presidential candidate Rev. "Of all the Democratic candidates out there," Ramaswamy asked, "why should I vote for the one with the least political experience?" At the first GOP presidential debate, candidates took turns throughout the night to try and discredit Ramaswamy over his experience.

But Mr. Ramaswamy’s retelling of the anecdote was sharply contradicted by the observations of a New York Times reporter who covered both events. The reporter witnessed the audience in Chicago pepper Mr. Ramaswamy about reparations, systemic racism and his opposition to affirmative action. Immigration was barely mentioned during the formal program. It was so absent that a Ramaswamy campaign aide at one point pleaded for questions on the issue. With that prompting, a single Republican consultant stood up to question Mr. Ramaswamy on his proposals.

In a sign of his extraordinary hold on his party, just two rivals at the first Republican presidential debate said they would not support him as the nominee if he were convicted. Haley has gained a reputation in the Republican Party as a solid conservative who has the ability to address issues of gender and race in a more credible fashion than many of her peers. GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy suggested an additional criteria for college applicants. He said colleges should screen applicants on their physical fitness, such as their 1-mile run time. Ramaswamy noted the idea wasn't part of his campaign platform, but is a "serious proposal." To combat this, the candidate said that College Board should "add a physical fitness section to the SAT, instead of just math and reading sections," and noted the section could possibly resemble the former Presidential Fitness Test which consisted of a 1-mile run, sit-ups, pull-ups, and more. Ramaswamy has also previously noted that if he makes it to the White House, he'd tap Musk as a potential adviser.

Rapper Eminem has demanded Vivek Ramaswamy stop using his music on the campaign trail — and the Republican presidential candidate looks ready to let the issue go. In a cease-and-desist order sent to Ramaswamy's lawyer on Aug. 23, music publisher BMI said Eminem took issue with the use of his music during Ramaswamy's campaign events. In response, the Ramaswamy campaign signaled the GOP hopeful will not perform the song again. Elon Musk says Vivek Ramaswamy should be the running mate of whoever becomes the GOP's 2024 pick. "He should get it imo," Musk wrote on Twitter on Sunday. Musk was responding to a tweet speculating that Ramaswamy "wants the VP pick." This time, he says he's throwing his weight behind the idea of GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for vice president. On Sunday, right-wing blogger Mike Cernovich wrote on X — the social media platform previously known as Twitter — that "Vivek is powerful."

Ayanna Pressley on Sunday hit back at Vivek Ramaswamy after he compared her to a KKK grand wizard. In making his comments last week, Ramaswamy argued that Pressley and Kendi didn't embrace diversity of opinion among members of minority groups. Instacart’s mixed bag has valuation opportunities

If it doesn’t push valuation too hard, a public listing could be seamless. Instacart booked net income in 2022, a rarity for a growth company hitting the public market. That brings Instacart’s enterprise value to roughly $17 billion, less than half of what it was worth in 2021 but still higher than the internal valuation it inked last year. As it turned out, Vivek Ramaswamy only got one shot to lose himself in the music. Marshall B. Mathers III, better known as the rapper Eminem, has told Mr. Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential candidate, that he is no longer to use Eminem music on the campaign trail, just weeks after Mr. Ramaswamy broke into an impromptu version of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” at the Iowa State Fair. At the fair, Mr. Ramaswamy, the 38-year-old political newcomer, had told Gov. “Vivek just got on the stage and cut loose,” his campaign spokeswoman, Tricia McLaughlin, said on Monday. “To the American people’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real Slim Shady,” another of Mr. Mathers’s nom de plumes.

Vivek Ramaswamy argued that Mike Pence missed a "historic opportunity" on January 6, 2021. Ramaswamy said on NBC's "Meet the Press," that Pence should have sought major election reforms. Karl Rove called out Vivek Ramaswamy over what he said was a "robotic" GOP debate performance. "Chris Christie got off one of the better lines of the night that he sounded like ChatGPT," he said. While Rove said Ramaswamy "on points had a good evening," he also said that the candidate "had a bad evening" when it came to substance. Ron DeSantis of Florida, who has so far been unable to dethrone former President Donald Trump from the top of the GOP presidential perch, had "a good night" at the debate. This was important for him to have a good night."

Chris Christie to understand what happens when a Republican candidate is highly critical of the former president. His net favorability rating in the latest Quinnipiac University poll stands at minus-44 points among Republicans. Those with an opinion viewed him unfavorably by more than a 3-to-1 ratio (26% unfavorable to 8% favorable, a net favorability rating of minus-18 points). Among those who have, Hurd has a similar net favorability ratio to Hutchinson’s – 4% viewed him favorably and 11% unfavorably. This leaves Trump’s GOP rivals with a conundrum that even Harry Houdini would find difficult to solve: how to eat away at Trump’s support without being seen as trying to bring him down.

GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy refused to back down from a rather surprising opinion. Ramaswamy compared Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley and author Ibram X. Kendi to KKK grand wizards. That’s the true mark of a real milestone on this campaign,” Ramaswamy joked. For many voters in Iowa, the debate was their introduction to the 38-year-old candidate. A survey of potential Republican primary voters who watched the debate conducted by The Washington Post, FiveThirtyEight and Ipsos showed 26% of voters thought Ramaswamy won the debate, second highest behind DeSantis. Still, the Ramaswamy campaign said it raised $600,000 in the day after the debate, the largest single-day total since its launch. The statement came in response to a town hall question from a voter on Friday, asking the 38-year-old entrepreneur where he would seek guidance if elected. Musk on Aug. 17 reposted an interview on his social media platform, X, between Ramaswamy and Tucker Carlson, calling Ramaswamy “a very promising candidate.”Ramaswamy admires the mass layoffs Musk conducted after taking over Twitter last year. Last month, Ramaswamy participated in a virtual discussion with Musk where the CEO described himself as a moderate voter. Vivek Ramaswamy, rising in the polls and buoyed by the first Republican primary debate this week, was barnstorming through central Iowa on Friday with a trademark smile and a remarkably bleak generational diagnosis of what ails younger America. The government “systematically lies to us,” he said. He told another gathering in Indianola, “We face a nonzero risk that the United States of America could cease to exist,” obliterated by the blossoming alliance of Russia and China. And yet somehow his evocation of a generational malaise seems to resonate, at least with the crowds that are packing the restaurants, cafes and even larger venues in the state that will cast the first ballots this January for the Republican presidential nomination. Noticeably, however, those crowds don’t seem to include many young voters.
