Researchers have now used DNA analysis to uncover just how long ants have been farming fungi, now described in a study published Thursday in the journal Science. To trace the evolution of this relationship between ants and fungi, Schultz and his colleagues built complex family trees. Using the DNA from 475 species of fungi, including 288 species known to be cultivated by ants, the researchers pieced together how all these organisms are related. The study team did the same thing for 276 species of ants, including 208 species of fungus farmers. Ants began farming fungi 66 million years ago after an asteroid hit Earth, according to a new study.

I've learned that it's OK to make space for both. For the next year and a half, the same lymph node was flagged as suspicious, leaving me in a constant state of limbo. The lymph node that had caused me so much anxiety — the last holdout — was clear. Most of all, I've learned to enjoy the life that I was given a second chance to live. I've learned to cherish this incredible gift while hoping to be here with him as long as possible.

When Jyoti Bansal made "the hardest decision" of his career — selling his software startup AppDynamics for billions — he did it with his employees in mind. As the startup's founder and chairman, Bansal would've become wealthy either way — but only one of his two options guaranteed the same for many of his staffers, he says. Upon Bansal's acceptance of the offer, roughly 400 AppDynamics employees saw their shares of the company rise in value to at least $1 million, a spokesperson for Bansal says. Today, he's the CEO and co-founder of two other software startups, Traceable and Harness, the latter of which was most recently valued at $3.7 billion in 2022. At least 70 of the company's 80 employees became millionaires on paper when VeriSign's stock soared two years later, Chaudhry said.

While not identifying any specific or credible threats to the United States, the advisory comes ahead of Monday’s anniversary of the October 7th attack in Israel and calls by foreign terrorist groups for violence against the West, the agencies said. The advisory also comes as Israel carries out deadly strikes against Hezbollah headquarters in Lebanon, and as it weighs a response to Iran’s recent ballistic missile attack. The New York Police Department increased patrols on Monday, a law enforcement source told CNN. The agencies assessed that foreign terrorist organizations will likely continue to “exploit narratives” surrounding hostilities involving Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran, in order to incite lone attackers toward violence in the US. So-called “lone wolves,” who are not formally part of a terror group, present an especially serious challenge to law enforcement, security sources have previously told CNN.

The September jobs report was surprisingly strong , and the details show that growth came from many different areas of the economy. Within hospitality, food services and drinking places saw jobs jump by 69,000. Professional and business services grew by 17,000 jobs, which is a notable change for a category that had shed jobs in recent months. The only caution flag could be the rise in those with multiple jobs," Roach said. Two key areas that lost jobs last month were manufacturing and transportation and warehousing, though each category shrank by fewer than 10,000 jobs.

The unemployment rate fell to 4.1%, down 0.1 percentage point. Strength in job creation spilled over to wages, as average hourly earnings increased 0.4% on the month and were up 4% from a year ago. One thing seems clear: The company is burning through far more cash than it’s bringing in, according to reporting from the New York Times. Here’s where things get a little wild:Next year, OpenAI estimates that its revenue will more than triple to $11.6 billion. It’s not clear how, or whether, OpenAI is working on reducing its significant cash burn. “It has nothing to do with reality.”One way OpenAI could improve its margins would be to cut costs.

The oil tanker 'Devon' prepares to transfer crude oil from Kharg Island oil terminal to India in the Persian Gulf, Iran, on March 23, 2018. U.S. crude oil prices just saw a third consecutive session of gains after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel, heightening tensions in the region.
