Kelly added that he thought labor shortages in both the US and Canada were empowering workers to cut off communication. Before accepting a job, Gray always checks out company reviews on sites like Glassdoor and examines the social-media profiles of the senior-leadership team. Allison Hemming started "pink-slip parties" in the early aughts after the dotcom bust. Back then, like now, tech workers lost their jobs en masse. Hemming began running regular meetups for laid-off tech workers — misery loves company, after all — giving them an opportunity to network and meet prospective hiring managers. Will the latest tech layoffs spur a return of pink-slip parties? The tech workers losing their jobs today have a nice runway because a lot of big nontech companies are still hiring.
FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested before he could testify about his exchange's collapse. He did prepare a testimony, which a member of the House Financial Services Committee called "absolutely insulting." It wasn't read out in full at the hearing, but congressional leaders had a copy of the draft on hand. Bankman-Fried's spokesperson, Mark Botnick, told Insider he had no comment on the planned testimony. Copies of the planned testimony were first obtained by Forbes and Bloomberg.
Some of my colleagues had confrontations with passengers on a regular basis, but that very rarely happened to me. Unlike some of my colleagues, I wasn't there to play police with the passengers – I always tried to defuse tricky situations. After that, I tried to deal with the passenger's behavior as gently as possible, while still conveying the severity of his actions. On one occasion a passenger started behaving really aggressively for no clear reason. Some of them could be quite judgmental, narrow-minded, and even bigoted — and that definitely affected their treatment of their passengers and their colleagues.

But career strategists say it's important that short-timers exit with dignity. But can you blame him when he got a better job offer, complete with a remote-work option, an elevated title, and a $30,000 raise plus a sign-on bonus? Robert Kelley, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business, chalked up all this quick quitting to dramatic shifts in how people think about work. But Kelley and others say it's important that short-timers exit with dignity — no need to burn bridges, after all. Kelley advised offering to stay even longer even if it means delaying the start of your next job.
"For years, everybody assumed that the health benefits of physical activity required at least 10 minutes," she said. Previous research from the University of Sydney has also found that vigorous physical activity is associated with lower rates of heart disease. A 2019 study also determined that stair climbing was associated with a lower risk of death among older men. Current U.S. guidelines say adults need 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, such as brisk walking, riding a bike or playing tennis. Three people close to FTX and Bankman-Fried told CNBC that the former CEO lobbied aggressively for a partnership with 11-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift. Bankman-Fried's commitment to getting the Swift deal done despite the deteriorating business environment fit a pattern of ignoring his lieutenants and going it alone, a half-dozen former company insiders and business partners said. The Financial Times reported earlier that FTX held talks with Swift about a potential sponsorship. Part of the Swift deal would have included the production by the singer of a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), or digital items that can rise and fall in value. Beyond that, there was a lack of clarity over what Swift would be doing for the company, sources said.

These standards are based on factors including the borrower's financial stability and the state of the housing market and economy. Finding the right size for the credit box is much easier said than done. A tidal wave of foreclosures followed, plunging the US housing market — and the global economy — into chaos. Even just stabilizing the credit box over time could also help smooth out some of the boom-and-bust cycles that have come to define the housing market. "If we do not address this intrinsic cyclicality, the housing market will continue to experience boom-bust cycles, leaving destruction in their wake," the paper said.

Interest in this niche breed of cryptocurrencies, typically linked to sports teams like Barcelona or Brazil, has been charged up by the soccer World Cup which began on Nov. 20. The token of Lionel Messi's Argentina side slumped 25% to $5.26 following the team's shock defeat by Saudi Arabia in their opening World Cup game. The broader crypto market malaise is partly to blame for price drops, according to researchers who said the flighty assets were wilting as investors shunned risk. Huber shared what goes into cultivating a career as a successful audiobook narrator. "I narrated a book and I read about three-quarters of it, and then I was like: 'You know, I'm good. "There's this idea among newer narrators that seasoned narrators are getting $600 an hour, and that is not the case. It's possible for an experienced audiobook narrator working full time to earn in the low six figures, Huber added. But even before considering that step, Huber suggested reading a book aloud for a long stretch.
This year's extreme volatility has kept investors on edge, but market veteran Howard Marks believes that none of the short-term risks should matter. "Investors should find a way to keep their hands off their portfolios most of the time," Marks said in the memo. The S & P 500 has fallen nearly 16% this year. "Consistently buy an S & P 500 low-cost index fund," Buffett said in 2017. "Think of participating in the long-term performance of the average as the main event and the active efforts to improve on it as 'embroidery around the edges,'" Marks wrote.

That plan quickly falls through — and Twitter decides to adopt a poison-pill strategy to fend off a hostile takeover from Musk. At this point, shares in Musk's automotive company, Tesla, began to decline; by mid-November, they will have lost close to half their value. “Musk’s conduct simply confirms that he wants to escape the binding contract he freely signed, and to damage Twitter in the process,” Twitter says. In the meantime, Musk and Twitter jockey for position ahead of the October trial — with Judge Kathaleen McCormick increasingly siding with Twitter in key pre-trial motions. Within 48 hours, the site was flooded with users who bought blue checkmarks only to turn around and impersonate official accounts, including Musk's.

But while the peak of the pandemic appears to be in the rearview, the healthcare industry has continued to be governed by political forces.
