So they need to think of other ways to generate pressure," Kallas told Insider. "This shows what students and Starbucks workers demanding accountability can look like," Brisack told Insider. Union organizers across these stores, many of whom were also Cornell students, said the closures constituted an act of union-busting. Sara Trilling, president of Starbucks North America, said Starbucks later closed the remaining Ithaca stores in an ongoing effort to "transform our store portfolio." Evan Sunshine, a Cornell student who worked at two different Ithaca Starbucks locations until each one closed, said Cornell's decision is a step in the right direction.

While live-in landlords are far from a novel concept, the pandemic-era fever around passive income and real-estate investing has sparked a rise in the popularity of house hacking. While Turner's initial strategy emphasized small multifamily buildings, some house hackers applied the concept to single-family homes. The indictment from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis included 18 defendants in addition to Trump, 41 charges in total and 30 unindicted co-conspirators. Willis’ indictment also went well beyond what transpired in Georgia as she used racketeering violations to charge a broad criminal conspiracy. Privately owned Ariela & Associates International has agreed to buy Parade, the VC-backed intimates startup that created "the internet's favorite underwear," CNBC has learned. "Consolidation is the big opportunity, especially for big, traditional brands to acquire more digitally savvy upstarts. It quickly became a favorite among Gen Z consumers eager for comfortable and affordable underwear that fit their body style and personal values. As part of Ariela, Parade will now be able to tap on the firm's manufacturing muscle to scale up and become more of a mass-market brand, said Jessica Ramirez, a senior analyst with Jane Hali and Associates. "We are sons of Jenin," said one of the Islamic Jihad fighters, who identified himself as Abu Salah. Islamic Jihad is a Palestinian faction sworn to destroying Israel and replacing it with an Islamic state. Many of the Palestinian attackers who have killed Israelis in Israel and the West Bank came from the area. Sometimes the transfers involve criminals and sometimes legitimate or semi-legitimate businesses help to move funds to the West Bank, the militant sources said. Much of the weaponry used by the Jenin fighters comes from Israel itself, stolen and sold on through criminal gangs, Israeli officials say.

The protesters who had gathered on an arid patch of lawn in Rome’s central Piazza Venezia hailed from neighborhoods all around the capital, but they had one concern in common: saving the towering umbrella pine trees that for centuries have adorned the city’s low-slung skyline but are disappearing in distressing numbers. Celebrated in music and art, and admired by the ancient Romans, the trees are as much a part of the city’s identity as its human-made landmarks. “They are in the hearts, photographs and memories of everyone,” said Jacopa Stinchelli, who is helping lead the defense of the pines, which in recent years have taken a mangy turn. An infestation of a pernicious and invasive pest, an insect known as the pine tortoise scale, which sneaked into Italy about a decade ago, has killed many trees.

Disney is joining the streaming fight against password sharing. While Iger said Disney should see some effects from the rollout in 2024, the initiatives to prevent password sharing won't be completed next year. Disney follows the lead of Netflix , which began rolling out a new account sharing policy earlier this year. Disney has three streaming services under its umbrella: the flagship Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. As the company eliminates password sharing, it does not know how the action will affect subscriber growth, Iger said.

As he guided his giant harvester through a field in eastern England, James Williams still had another nine hours to go before finishing his 12-hour shift. Even then, other workers would continue through the night gathering a once ubiquitous vegetable that growers believe could be about to have a new moment in British life. The frozen pea, a humble staple of the country’s cuisine, may be on its way back. At least, that’s what Britain’s vegetable producers are striving for, as food prices spike and shoppers increasingly turn to the freezer cabinets in supermarkets to help keep weekly costs down. That, growers say, offers another opportunity for pea producers to restore the popularity of a product that was a staple of the 1970s, but which fell out of fashion as shoppers sought out farm-to-table produce like broccoli, peppers, avocados and other, more exotic, vegetables.

In its latest monthly data, Italy's ministry of health noted the effects of extreme temperatures on the country's mortality rate in July compared to the average rate recorded in the same period from 2015 to 2019. The increased mortality rate was particularly evident in southern cities such as Bari, Catania, and Reggio Calabria. Allow sweat to evaporateHumans are designed to self-regulate body temperature by radiating heat directly off the skin and by sweating. “But while you’re exercising, it would be a great choice.”At this time, however, no wardrobe choices can protect the body from really intense heat, Katta said. “The National Weather Service has done a great job of emphasizing the heat index, which considers both heat and humidity, and I think it’s really important,” Katta said. “We can create textiles, clothing and accessories as a form of health, for medicine, for human comfort,” Hu said.
